Hi PowerAutomate community.
I am in the middle of creating a flow, however I have hit a blocker which is giving me the following error.
Array elements can only be selected using an integer index
My current flow can be seen below. I am essentially using Jiras REST API to make a call. From the JSON returned I am trying to export the relevant fields into a csv file.
My problem is occurring within my select connector. As when I am trying to populate certain fields it is throwing errors. The fields that I have filled in seem to be returning the correct data but the fields that have been left out all throw the same error of,
Array elements can only be selected using an integer index
An example of one of the expressions that seem to correctly pull the data can be seen below:
When I test the flow it then seems to pass and correctly extract the data for Issue Type.
However now when I try the same method for lets say linked issues
item().fields.issuelinks.outwardIssue.key
Which seems to match the JSON Schema I believe.
When I run the flow I am presented with this error.
How can I select outward issue using an integer index? What would the syntax be?
If anybody knows and could help that would be much appreciated, I feel like this flow is almost finished I just need to work out how to select using integer index and all of the fields that are left to populate have thrown this error.
Thanks in advance!
Your issueLinks are an array inside the object. From the sample it looks like you've only got one entry for each link. So try the following JSON to get the first item in the issuelinks array.
item().fields.issuelinks[0].outwardIssue.key
Hi @Pstork1
Thanks for a quick response. I have tried your expression however am now getting a different error. See below:
The error would suggest that at least one of the records in your main array has a blank Issueslink entry. I'm not sure you'll be able to do what you want using a Select
Hi @Pstork1
That would make sense. Quite a few of the Issueslink entrys are blank as not all of the data have linked issues. Do you have any ideas on a way around this at all?
Thanks
You may have to adjust your schema to allow for null values as well, but try the following to handle the empty array.
item()['fields']?['issuelinks']?[0]['outwardIssue']?['key']
Hi @Pstork1
Thanks very much for the response.
I tried the new expression however am now getting the following error.
How would I go about adjusting my schema to allow for null values?
Thanks
I forgot one of the question marks
item()['fields']?['issuelinks']?[0]?['outwardIssue']?['key']
Hi @Pstork1
Wow, that seemed to do the job! thank you so much. For some of the linked issues they may either be null, have 1 link or multiple links. Is there anyway you could alter the expression slightly to allow for cases that have more than one linked issue at all?
Also is there any chance you could help with the remaining field I need to populate?
Organizations may also have null values. The expression I tried was the following:
item().fields.fields.customfield_10500.name
Your help is really appreciated!
Thanks
The JSON notation I used with the ? between fields will allow for null values.
In the case where you have multiple issuelinks there is no way to drill down to get the individual keys since you don't know which indexes to use. In that case your only real choice is to use the Select to grab the entire array and then use an apply to each look later to access the individual values.
Hey @Pstork1
Great thanks, I managed to fill out the organizations field using your advice.
For the linked issue field I tried using another select expression as seen below:
expression 1 = item()['fields']?['issuelinks']?[0]?['outwardIssue']?['key']
expression 2 = item()['fields']?['issuelinks']?[0]?['inwardIssue']?['key']
However when I run the flow either one or the other is only being extracted. Do you know of a way that would extract both values if there are indeed more than one?
Thanks
Change it from using two expressions to only one by concatenating the values in some way
Hi @Pstork1
Yeah I tried to concat by adding the expression
concat(item()['fields']?['issuelinks']?[0]?['outwardIssue']?['key'], item()['fields']?['issuelinks']?[0]?['inwardIssue']?['key'])
But that didn't seem to do the trick as fields with more than one linked issue are still only showing 1 link
Thanks,
I was afraid of that. It may not be possible to do what you are doing with a Select.
Hi @Pstork1
Thank you for the response
Ah that's a shame, hopefully somebody else from the Power Automate community will have a solution.
In the mean time I am working on populating my final field of "time to first response". From the JSON output I have written the expression
item()['fields']?['customfield_10727']?['completedCycles']?[0]?['ongoingCycle']?['remainingTime']?['friendly']
However I am receiving only null values so I assume the syntax is wrong. Do you have any idea at all?
JSON below for reference.
Thanks
ongoingCycle is at the same level as completedCycles. Try this
item()['fields']?['customfield_10727']?['ongoingCycle']?['remainingTime']?['friendly']
Hi @Pstork1
Thanks for a swift response. Yeah I thought they were too but in the error there only seems to be an option for completedCycles. Error came after trying the suggested above.
Thanks
That should be the right syntax. Check your schema to make sure its in the schema.
Also, I tried the concat() I suggested in the Select value and it works for me with the following.
concat(item()['issuelinks']?[0]?['outwardIssue']?['key'], '-', item()['issuelinks']?[0]?['inwardIssue']?['key'])
I would check your syntax and try it again. It works for me with one or both keys filled in.
Any chance you could cut out some of the sensitive values and send me a sample of your JSON? It would make things much easier to test.
Hi @Pstork1
I have tried using the concat expression again, however similar to last time the fields that have more than one linked issue are only showing one.
Thanks
The concat() will let you get both an outward and inward issue from the same linked issue. There is no way to use select to get multiple linked issues if there is more than one. Linked issues is an array and must be handled with a loop. You can get specific items from the array using an index [0], but that requires that you know how may items to plan for in the array.
