Calendar Event to Specific Date based on Form

Good afternoon.  I have a created this Flow. It works great as far as sending the responses for approvals, creating a calendar event, and emailing those that need to be emailed of the approval.  The problem I am having is the calendar event is always added to the date on which the form is submitted.  How do I get it to go to the date on which the request is for?

Hi @tiny_24 

 

You just need to use the Date of Requested Absence field which you use in your approval step?  Stick that into your Create Event Start Time?  If the format is wrong, use the expression formatdatetime().

I am not seeing a Create Event Start Time? 

If you are referring to this, I have tried to change that "Start time for" to "Date of Request" and it doesn't work. 

I must be doing something wrong.

When I insert an event for 05/03/2021 which in the case of the event step is 2021-03-05 it gets added to my calendar as expected.  I suspect the date you are providing is not in the right format?

 

Try inserting a compose (temporarily) with the field you believe is the start date for your event and see what it outputs.  Then if it is in the wrong format use the expression formatdatetime(YOURVARIABLE,'yyyy-MM-dd')

@DamoBird365 I am really thinking it is grabbing the wrong date location.

It is grabbing the date in which the leave request is submitted (Today's Date) and not the (Date of Requested Absence) when it puts it on the calendar.   

 

I just don't know how to "Point" the create calendar event to select the Date of Requested absence since there is no "date" option in that step. It just has start time & End Time

Is it not the start time field you want to populate? Or have I misunderstood your problem? You need to stick Date of Requested Absence into the start time of the create event step. Start time is the date and time from my test and screen shot.

When I do this the flow checks out. 

I get the approval notification/email.  I can approve it. BUT then I don't get the email notification of approval and it also doesn't hit the calendar at all.  I have to be doing something wrong. 

Yeah, the format must be wrong. Can you stick both of those into separate compose steps and then check the history? Most likely it will need to be formatted and this is the easiest way to see what your playing with.

I think I found the history you were referring too.  

Is this what you meant? I'm really sorry but as you can tell I am very green with this and am just trying a flow for the first time.  We have had the option for a while but it is so very intimidating.  So I really appreciate your patience.

@tiny_24 No problems, we all start somewhere 🙂 just keep learning and I am happy to keep going if you think I’m helping you too.

So, you can see that your start time is missing a date. We really need to find that date somewhere and then we’ve cracked your problem. 

The compose action is great for troubleshooting. Drop your fields into it and re run the flow. If you check the history for each run, you’ll eventually find the date time you are looking for.

Final piece after that will be making sure the date is in the right format.  Now let’s see if you can find that date 🙂

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!    This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities. Users must provide a solution which can be an “Accepted Solution” in the Forums in all of the communities and there are no limits to the number of “Accepted Solutions” that a member can provide for entries in this challenge, but each entry must be substantially unique and different.    Winner Selection and Prizes: At the end of each week, we will list the top ten (10) Community users which will consist of: 5 Community Members & 5 Super Users and they will advance to the final drawing. We will post each week in the News & Announcements the top 10 Solution providers.  At the end of the challenge, we will add all of the top 10 weekly names and enter them into a random drawing.  Then we will randomly select ten (10) winners (5 Community Members & 5 Super Users) from among all eligible entrants received across all weekly Entry Periods to receive the prize listed below.
