Cannot get index value to read as integer

I'm trying to access a specific value from a column in a excel sheet (generated by responses from a form). I've tried many different expressions and cannot get the second index value to pass in as an integer. The error always comes back that im passing a string in. It fails in the select action.

'The template language expression 'item()?['What day of the week is being reported?'][variables('integerID')]' cannot be evaluated because property '16' cannot be selected. Property selection is not supported on values of type 'String'. Please see https://aka.ms/logicexpressions for usage details.'.

Below are some examples of expressions I've tried.

item()?['What day of the week is being reported?'][16]
item()?['What day of the week is being reported?'][[variables('integerID')]]
item()?['What day of the week is being reported?'][triggerOutputs()?['body/resourceData/responseId']]

item()?['What day of the week is being reported?'][int(triggerOutputs()?['body/resourceData/responseId'])]

I've attached a picture of my flow if it helps.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi @ivanh98 ,

Please check this test:

I guess you have another flow that will automatically fill in the data in the excel table when you submit the MS Form, so I added a delay operation in the flow, delaying 10 seconds, and then getting the latest filled data in the excel table. To avoid obtaining the data before the filling is completed, flow will not be able to obtain the latest data.

I filter out the records whose ID is equal to ResponseId in List rows present in a table.

When this record exists and the length is greater than 0, go to the yes branch.

Use select to get the data of the columns you want to add, build an html table and send emails.

ID eq '@{triggerOutputs()?['body/resourceData/responseId']}'
length(outputs('List_rows_present_in_a_table')?['body/value'])

item()?['ID']
item()?['Start time']
item()?['Completion time']
item()?['What day of the week is being reported?']

Hi @ivanh98 ,

Which action output is the second index value of which column in the excel table, please provide more detailed information, preferably with a screenshot of flow.

Best Regards,

Sunshine Gu

edited my original message and replied with a picture of flow

Hi @ivanh98 ,

Which column do you want to get the second value?

Best Regards,

Sunshine Gu

I'm trying to get the latest form response in the column named "What day of the week is being reported?" which is why im trying to index via the responseID

Hi @ivanh98 ,

Please try this:

triggerOutputs()?['body/resourceData/responseId']

Use the ResponseId directly from the trigger MS Form.

Best Regards,

Sunshine Gu

Hi @v-yetonggu-msft
Tried. Same error in original post.

Hi @ivanh98 ,

Isn’t the ResponseId stored in your ‘What day of the week is being reported’ column?

Could you please show a screenshot of your excel table?(Private information can be coded)

Best Regards,

Sunshine Gu

‘What day of the week is being reported’ column stores the answers to that question (column name). The responseID is its own column containing the IDs to the responses.

Hi @ivanh98 ,

Please provide me with a screenshot of your excel table, I'm still hard to understand and confusing.

Best Regards,

Sunshine Gu
