Hello,
i have trouble building a Flow in Power Automate. We have some kind of a softare release process which i would like to automate.
The procedure is receiving a email like "Testing-Freigabe SW Softwarename v00". With that email i want to create a item in a list with the Softwarename as Title and the version in a separate coloumn. See picture below.
For Create Item i use the functions
for Title
split(split(triggerOutputs()?['body/subject'],'SW')[1],'v')[0]
and
trim(last(split(triggerOutputs()?['body/subject'], 'v')))
for version
The flow is working for emails with software names that are one or three word long, but not for two or four word software names.
Like "Testing-Freigabe SW daniel v000" and "Testing-Freigabe SW daniel daniel daniel v000" are working, "Testing-Freigabe SW daniel daniel v000" is not.
Can anyone help me?
Hi @RubenRybnick,
Tried to reproduce your issue with the example values you shared. In all instances it seems to work, your expressions look alright. As far as I can tell all three values should work.
I would suggest to double check your subject value of the flow instances which failed just to double check if there are not any strange characters in the subject line, which might influence your expressions.
Below was how I tested this btw.
1. Flow repro setup
2. Test result, which seem correct, right?
thank you for your support. I tested the flow by sending an email to myself. I send myself the same email with just different amounts of daniel and the just one daniel email did not work.
Sometimes two words do not work, sometimes one word. I have allready send myself about 100 Emails and i dont see a pattern.
I tried it again with a longer Version aka with two . and it changed its behaviour.
This Time only the one and two word Software worked. Is there any issue with the . in the Version?
i added trim to the tile function and it improved the flow, but for some version numbers its still not working
Hi @RubenRybnick,
As far as I am aware there shouldn't be an issue with that dot.
Like I mentioned in my previous reply, can you still double check the subject field in the outputs of your When a new email arrives (v3) action for the ones that don't work? That might give you a clue.
I tried to check the outputs, but i cant. Maybe you can give me a hint.
I tried to Test the Workflow manual by the Test button and sending me an email with the Testing-Freigabe SW daniel daniel daniel v001.00 subject, but the flow is just waiting for an email.
I have send the exact same email again and nothing happend. After that the next one and this one worked.
I dont know why.
Hi @RubenRybnick,
To check the outputs you can use the steps below. Btw, what type of field is Version in the SharePoint list (single line of text?)
1. Go to 28-day flow run history
2. Click on the instance of the flow which resembles the time of the test with the daniel daniel daniel test (the one which did not work). In my example the one of 10:53 AM
3. With the run history expand the When an new email arrives (v3) action
4. Click on the Click to Download link
Plan B would be to place a Compose directly after the When a new email arrives (v3) and use the subject field in there, without any expression functions like split.
There is no flow for the "failed" flows. I can find a flow for that daniel daniel daniel issue i mentioned a few posts above. For some kind the flow does not even start.
Hi @RubenRybnick,
I don't think you will find a flow with a status failed for these emails. You don't have an error in your flow. Your expressions work but simply output the wrong information.
Have a look for one with the status succeeded or Test succeeded.
And otherwise test it again by sending an new email.
my output looks a little bit messy.
What kind of Tool do you use for formatting?
But the subject seems fine
subject":"Testing-Freigabe SW daniel daniel daniel v001.00"
Hi @RubenRybnick,
When I click download it just opens in another tab of my browser (FireFox), which handles the formatting.
I am not entirely sure you checked the correct flow history run? You wanted to troubleshoot one which had v001.00.00. If it is showing v001.00 in the subject you are probably looking at the wrong flow history run.
Double check this by matching the receivedDatetime value within the Outputs against the time your received the e-mail in your Outlook (in one of your earlier screenshots it showed 11:41).
Or in your next test just use a different Title, that will make troubleshooting a bit easier 😁
Try testing with something like this in the subject of your e-mail:
Testing-Freigabe SW PowerAutomate PowerApps PowerBI v001.00.00
i just checked the checks in the run history.
I have send an Email, but the check was just skipped. For some reason the flow just skipped the email. I dont know why and i cant find any further information about that skip.
Hi @RubenRybnick,
Two follow-up questions.
1. How are you testing? Are you using the Test button in the right top corner of the flow designer?
If so, that shouldn't be needed, because the e-mail itself should already trigger your flow.
2. Can you check the settings of your When a new email arrives (v3) trigger action? Ideally you copy/paste the code from the peek code option.
Below is a gif (click on the gif to see it in higher resolution) how you can copy that code (and share it in this thread).
