Creating my first approval flow and am stuck - Please help

Hope you can help.

Given the limitations with the built in "sign-off" function in SharePoint I decided to look into creating my own approval flow which for the most part seems to work as intended, sending out emails and updating file properties once approved/rejected.. but here is one thing I cant seem to figure out how to do...

In the standard version of "sign-off" before you run the flow, the requester has the ability to type the approvers name in a box before the flow runs (Which i assume is looking up our active directory/office list for valid people in the company) ... but when you create a simple start and wait for approval flow you have to enter a value in the *assinged to box.

what do I need to add to my flow to allow the user choose the approver? I work for a big multinational corp that uses office and outlook 365.

P.s the approval flow is for a document library/when document selected scenario not for a list.

What are you using for a trigger in the flow?  If you use the for a selected file trigger you can add an Input where they can type the name or email address of the person.  That can then be used to look them up.

Yes I am using "for the selected file" trigger I assumed I was missing an input piece between the trigger and start and wait for approval action but couldn't figure out what it would be. Given Ms dont allow you to deconstruct built in sign-off flow I couldn't work it out.

Do I just create that user input  and then map that to the "assign to" input on the wait for approval action conditions.

Create the Input in the trigger in the flow. It will then show up in a panel to the right of the screen when you start the flow.

I realised it was a simple option on the trigger properties.
