Delete Calendar events from one date to another

Hi

I've been searching all over, since I'm very new to Power Automate.

I need to create a flow that deletes events (both own created and invites but not reoccurring meanings) from the 1st of may 2018 and to 1st of december 2020.

Unfortunately I haven't found any pre-defined flows for this, so what I'm asking for is all the help and pointers I can get.

Thanks in advance.

/Tim

Hi @pabst

My suggestion would be to work backwards and make sure your initial two conditions are working.  I like to use the compose action to explore this.

I would suggest a compose for each of the following:

item()?['start']

lessOrEquals(item()?['start'], '''2019-10-25''')

items('Anvend_på_hver_2')?['recurrence']

not(contains(items('Anvend_på_hver_2')?['recurrence'], '')

You will then be able to explore via the history, is the Flow evaluating your expressions as intended and spot where the problem is.

You can definitely use AND if your expressions evaluate as expected which you can only determine by good luck or evaluating using my method above as the history of a condition will just show true or false, not the evaluation.

Hi @pabst

If you use the action get events, you can then use the filter array action in order to return only those events where the date is prior - see below:

DamoBird365_0-1615900525782.png

With the results from the filter array, you can use an apply to each with the delete event action.

Thanks DamoBird365

I'll try that. 🙂

Didn't get to where I wanted.

It seems like the automatically added holidays are causing problems. I might just have to do it the old fashioned way. Delete-delete-delete.....

Hi @pabst

What part of it didn't work?  Can you give me an example?  If you look up the history of a run, look at the output from get events, what events didn't get returned by the filter array vs the get events, is there anything in the output that could help distinguish them and if so, lets use the filter to better use.

Hi again

Thanks for your help.. The flow looks like this... (Dates will change later on).

Some of it is in danish, due to company settings.

The error is the following:

Hi @pabst

It looks like you are filtering (in an apply to each) on a filter.

You could potentially combine these with an and expression in the original filter using advanced editor.

DamoBird365_0-1616415809781.png

In your delete event action which is failing, can you share with me the name of the dynamic value you are using to delete the item?

You want to be using the ID from the filter array action:

Thanks once again.

I just can't seem to get past including the extra filtering.

As I see it I need both og these:

@lessOrEquals(item()?['start'], '''2019-10-25''')

@not(contains(items('Anvend_på_hver_2')?['recurrence'], '')

But in advanced the extra line isn't accepted, tried every separator I know of- ( : / ; , etc)

Hi @pabst

In advance you just type @and(expression1,expression2)

Assuming your expressions work fine individually you can try:

@and(lessOrEquals(item()?['start'], '''2019-10-25'''),not(contains(items('Anvend_på_hver_2')?['recurrence'], ''))

Can you make sure you test @lessOrEquals(item()?['start'], '''2019-10-25''') also?

You might have to convert the date into a date/time using formatdatetime expression as currently you are comparing a date against a string.

Damien

Your quick assistance is greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately it is not working, tried these:

I was thinking, Is it possible to combine  "And" and "not"?

Hi Damien.

I haven't had time to make it work yet, mainly due to other tasks.

Working with Power Automate is unfortunately not a normal part of my job, but I tried it since I have to make 450 colleagues delete older items from their calendars due to company policy.

Hope I get the time to finish this, because having them do it manually will result in further problems.

I'll accept your answers as the solution.
