Email Attachment from Excel

Hello,

I'm trying to create a flow that will email a document that was created in earlier steps. See below photos. I created a Condition operation to create the email but i keep getting an error message stating that it's an invalid template. It is automatically turning my final step into a 'apply to each' step - Is that what is causing the issue? Any guidance or assistance is MUCH appreciated.

Hi

It seems to me its the output of the Convert Action, since you are taking the Template, creating a file, and then doing a Convert.

So the below, it looks to me that as you loop, you have the folder path ( you hard coded it, but its there).

You have the file name because it would be Registrant_cert.pdf based on the fact it was a docx initially and then you converted it to the PDF

FLMike_0-1695694196756.png

So now we gotta get the File Content

FLMike_2-1695694576949.png

Where the ID comes from the Create File action you do

And there is your file

Then in the Attachment where the File Content literally comes from the File Content output of the Get File Content action.

And yes you dont really need 2 loops, but lets get you working first.

Hello,

Essentially yes and no. It simply means that somewhere in the send email, you are using a Dynamic value that doesn't belong there.

My guess is that the To value (Email) is actually coming from your first List, not your second List, because thats what the error says. So either that or the Current Item is from the previous List and not the actual current list.

I would remove them and put them back, making sure they are from the second list.

I played with the flow and it seems the error is actually coming from the attachment. Any thoughts on why the attachment isn't pulling over? I've seen it be done before per the below link, but automate is updating my flow into 'Apply to Each'.

Link of the flow i'm trying to elaborate on: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/educator-developer-blog/automate-event-certificates-in-10-eas...

Image of where the issue actually is.

Hi,

yeah thats what I was referring too in my comment about "Current Item".

The Current Item, by itself, won't be a document. Its just a pointer to the row iteration from Apply to Each 2 . You need to get the File Contents of the File itself and put THAT in the Attachments

You need to use

Get file content or Get File content using path

And you need to get the Path from wherever you stored the path for that file, which I am assuming is a Column in the Excel rows that you are looping?

For Example comboine Current Item with the ColumnName of the path= items('Apply_to_each_2')['ColumnNameWithPathToFile']

and plop that into whichever Get File Content Action you used.

FLMike_0-1695664167028.png

Then the OUTPUT of this goes in the attachments - the dynamic property from that action.

Please remember to mark this answer as resolved, if it solved your problem.

Excuse the ignorance, I'm literally learning this system as I'm creating this flow. 🙂

I didn't actually save the path anywhere, i think. I created the PDF document that I'm trying to email out under the first 'Apply to Each' step. I suppose there is a path created there, but i'm hoping to email the unique document to each individual.

For example:

Susy May and Joe Shmo both are on the list, it creates the pdf document with their name (registrant) on the document. I then want to take that unique document and email it to that specific person.

In the example i found online, it seemed pretty straight forward and i was only changing the trigger of the flow. But my automate updates the flow with the 'Apply to Each' step and i'm not sure how to re-create the flow when it does that.

Hi @KillerTofu ,

Seems list rows and list rows 2 get items from a same table in a same excel file. If so , there is no need to add the list rows 2.

vbofengmsft_0-1695693255408.png

You could delete the list rows2 and apply to each2 , just add the condition action into the apply to each action.

Best Regards,

Bof
