Embedding an image into email

Good Afternoon

I've tried this every which way and nothing happens. No image displays. It all looks okay as per the instructions (looked at Paulie's, Manuel Gomes and a few others)

I'm getting my image from a Sharepoint library and I've both tried the variable option and Compose, neither works. And yes, I switch to html before inserting the variable/compose.

As far as I can see, my input looks okay but there's no output. What else can I troubleshoot?

In the flow run, the code displays, I just can't see it in the email.

Thanks, Christine

Hey Christine,

I have seen numerous posts on this issue. Just a suggestion, since you are using HTML formatted email, can you not provide a link to the image itself (assuming users have at least read permissions on the image) rather than embedding it in the email? Embedding would be my choice if my users do not have access to the image library.

If my suggestion helped you, please give it a Thumbs up and Mark it as a Solution so that it can benefit others in the community.

Hey  Christine @Amapola188

Your Formula looks correct...

Did you switch the email action to the HTML mode... <>

CFernandes_0-1668490752225.png

I use the formula

<img src="data&colon;image/png;base64,@{base64(outputs('Get_file_content_using_path')?['body'])}" alt="Red dot" />

@CFernandes Thanks for your response. Yes, I had switched to html and even redid the email step to make sure that wasn't it.

@SudeepGhatakNZ Hi Sudeep, I have considered the link version but the images are not on a public website, plus it's part of a For Each action (checking for updates) and the actual url of the image is quite complicated to compile, if not impossible from the information I have in that flow. So multiple reasons for not going down that route.

Also, this seems like a really good thing to get one's head around so I will keep trying. (It's also part of a fairly important process for me.)

Following @CFernandes, I have now also tried "base64(outputs('ImageContent')?['body'])" and "base64(body('ImageContent')['$content'])". The output for these two versions looks different (expected, one could say), not sure which one would be right because neither works. 😢

It may be also of interest to note that the alternative text given in the link doesn't show either. I wonder whether that means that it doesn't read/process the image tag?

Thanks, Christine

Hey Mate @Amapola188 - Still no images in the Email??

@CFernandes No luck yet! I'm out of options what else to try until I further trawl the internet! My personal email is gmail but according to help topics, embedding an image doesn't work on that platform anyway.

I'm wondering whether the fact that the alt string doesn't display either means that it doesn't read that bit at all? Haven't found anything on that yet.

Quick update - I was looking through the issues other people are having, and it occurred to me how it displays in Outlook online and online it displays like this. In Outlook desktop I get nothing.

I have another lead however, will report if I have any luck there.

I was going to try the thumbnail solution in this:

https://manueltgomes.com/microsoft/powerautomate/flow-issues-loading-images-in-email/

  • I'm getting the FileID from Get file metadata using path and then Get File properties
  • The thumbnails are actually links. Interesting address so I'm not quite sure how accessible they would. Don't need to look into that however, because it doesn't work.
  • I get nothing in the desktop version of Outlook and the same as above online.

I think I'm done here. Thanks everybody trying to help.
