End Flow During Set Hours using Condition

Hi all, 

I'd appreciate assistance with this flow.  I'm trying to have it check when a Power BI Dataflow refresh completes.  Convert it to local time (this is working correctly). 

Then if the time is between 8AM and 11:59PM the Flow should trigger a Power BI Data Model Refresh, otherwise it should complete without further action.  

Following is the flow:

The two conditions being tested are:

greaterOrEquals(formatDateTime(body('Convert_time_zone'),'HH:mm'),'08:00')

lessOrEquals(formatDateTime(body('Convert_time_zone'),'HH:mm'),'23:59')

However, as you can see from this executed flow, the result in the condition is "False" even though the time returned in local time is within the boundaries.  

If it is relevant, the Convert Time Zone is converted based on the format "Full date/time pattern (short time) - Monday, June 15, 2009 1:45 PM [f]".

When I click on the information about the condition from the executed flow, it doesn't provide any useful information so it seems virtually impossible to trouble shoot. 

I'd appreciate any advise on why the Condition is failing.  Thanks.

Hi,

you can create a Compose action before your Condition action. In the Compose action you can put the full conditions or only parts of them to debug them.

On the fly, without having tried it, I would say that your greaterOrEquals and lessOrEquals conditions don't work as you expect it, because you are passing two strings. It is allowed to compare strings, but I have no idea about that.

You could also check if you are passing your strings (or integers) in the correct order:

- greaterOrEquals(1,5) will return False

- greaterOrEquals(5,1) will return True

Here is an example you can use. I had to use a variable for the dataflow time, so just replace that first variable with your dataflow end time. The other two variables use the converted datetime as a source. The first one will return 8am for that day, the second one will return midnight of that day which is 00:00 of the next day.

Then you compare the converted datetime to the 8am and midnight time.

This uses the startofDay() function, addhours() function, and addDays() function. You can read them here Reference Guide Expression Functions.

Hopefully this gives you an idea of how you can set up your flow.

I do think it is kind of odd with the timezone conversions and when the dataflow finishes. Since it seems like you don't want it to refresh before 8am of that day. Since you are 10 hours ahead of UTC, you really wouldn't need the midnight comparison. You basically want to know if it is before 8am of that day.

But it still works with however you want to use it.
