Flow randomly starts taking 30+ minutes to complete, if it does complete.

Created a flow that compares data from an excel table to a SP List and updates the SP List accordingly. When initially running the flow, I had no issues, however, as time has gone on, it's talking forever to complete, if it completes at all. I've applied the same flow to smaller data sets and haven't had any issues, so I think that may be the issue, but it consistently gets caught up at one or two steps (both of which are identical, just one is applied to Excel, while the other is applied to the SP data). Therefore, I'm lost because I'm not provided with any error and every once in a while it actually works. Any help would be much appreciated.

Pictures:

1) Flow history, I fixed it for a bit, but then it went back to it's broken states.

2) The Active Flow run, to show where it's being held up, most of the time.

3&4) The actions within this step, as well as the other step that causes the indefinite delay.

Hello ketver,

I am reading through the details on this and based off what you are showing and describing it sounds like you may be hitting limits on your daily calls you can make to Power Automate.

To help confirm this you will want to verify the following.

1. Multiply the number of rows you are grabbing from excel spreadsheet by the number of actions in the apply to each loop that runs right after it. This combined with the other actions will total the number of calls made during a single run of the flow.

2. How many times does this flow trigger in any given day(this will be used to multiple the total runs for a single run)

3. What license you have that gives Power Automate. This is important as there are different total limits associated with it that can be found here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/limits-and-config#daily-limits

NOTE: Please do not state the exact license just compare it with the document to confirm what limit you are on.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Using this we can see how many calls the API is making. So going back to your flow as the example(I am going to modify the numbers a bit)

1. You have an excel spread sheet with 10 Rows and there are 3 actions completed in the apply to each loop, i see a 2 more actions plus another loop in sharepoint, for ease im going to have it mirror Excel so thats another 10 items times a 3 loop

so right now we got 2 +(10*3) + 2 + (10*3) for 64 and to make it simple lets say there is one final email action afterwards so that its a total of 65 actions completed in a single run

2. Looking at the number of triggers it looks like it goes every 5 minutes which means in an hour it triggers 12 times. which would be (12*65)*24 as that is a single days entire period which equals about 18k. so in a single day you are making that many number of calls on just this one flow.

Note: This is entirely example numbers but as you can see even when the number or rows are small depending on how frequently it triggers or the number of actions done in a loop it can start to increase quite a bit.

3. The next thing we would do is compare it with the documented limits of individual licenses which for this example I will use a license with one of the lowest limits, the Trial license(or Power Automate Free) which means I would be hitting a limit that when causes it to delay completion of a flow until more calls are available.

This then leads to your options, Either you Redesign the flow so that when it grabs items it filters what it grabs(I.E. if it had 100 rows but you only needed 5 of them you put in a query to only grab the 5) or reducing the number of steps completed

OR

to obtain a license with a higher limit(Something you will wish to speak to your license provisioner on).

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Now, I need to make one final note here, this is entirely an educated guess based off the details you have provided and is something you can use to try and confirm on your end with these steps. However, If you are still hesitant on this being the answer you will need to open a ticket with Microsoft Support as specific information will need to be grabbed including User IDs and Flow IDs so we can search for details on our end on if the flow is hitting any throttling limit

Have a good day,

Unfortunately, I discovered this is in fact the issue and now I'm trying to figure out how to best deal with the licensing limits because Microsoft has left me with just a few poor options.  None of the plan are practical for my needs, so I'm going to either need to buy the highest action/day limit on two accounts or get the excessive per flow plan.
