Flows runs successfully but condition expression result is false.

Hi there,

Newbie to Power Automate here.

I have a pretty simple flow which i am really struggling with.

I have a leave request app in powerapps that employees use to request their leave and managers to approve it. I created a flow that would send a mail to HR once a manager approves the request.

The flow has two conditions , one that checks if the status of a request is approved, and another that checks if a row in the Mail_Sent_To_HR column is blank.

if these two conditions are met, a mail is sent and an item is updated in the sharepoint list.

The flow seems to run without any errors but the expression result of my condition is False,  so for that reason my mail isn't being sent and my list isn't updating.  I have done some research and i cant seem to find a solution, and I am pretty certain i did everything right but you can never be sure.

below is a snippet of my flow.

I have tried switching the conditions, by moving one up, but still no luck.

Below is the snippet of the error:

Can anybody please help in this regard?

Thank you

Hello @Dovetail,

The flow execution is successful because when a condition returns False, it is supposed to execute the actions under the If no branch. To get the email, the condition needs to be True.

Why are you using the Get items action? If you need to get the item properties (columns), you can pull them from the trigger. 🙂

Also, if the Status column is a choice column, you may need to use Status value instead of Status.

Lastly, you can open a flow run to see the data that was pulled from SharePoint. So, you can confirm if the Status was Approved and if the Mail_Sent_To_HR was null.

Hi @Mari

I used the Get Items action cause i have multiple sharepoint list and i only wanted to get one.

I am not sure how i would pull the item properties from the trigger, may you please assist in this regard? I am rookie to Power apps.

The status column is not a choice column, it is a text column which takes a single line of text.

Below is a full snippet of my flow, perhaps it share some light on my issue might be.

Looking at the flow, everything seemed to have ran correctly , the status is Approved, and Mail_Sent_To_HR  row was null and was updated to Yes.

What is weird is, the flow works hundred percent like it should, i am receiving the mail and the item is being updated IF YES, however the expression result still returns False

Please assist.

Hi @Dovetail. You can pull the columns of the item from the trigger, instead of using the Get items, since Get items will pull all the items that you have in the Leave list, unless you used a Filter Query or set a Top Count.

About the condition, why do you have some HTML in the Mail_Sent_To_HR column?

If the condition needs to be true, the Mail_Sent_To_HR column should be empty and the Status needs to be "Approved" (Status is already ok in the screenshot).

Mari_0-1595293241293.png

Hi there

I also do not know why there is HTML is that column, it was populated by the system. - I thought thats what the Update Item function does.
What is weird is that the condition was true for a second, then became false after the second test, and it has been false ever since then.

I think the problem  with the condition might be with the null expression. is there another way of checking if a column is empty besides using the NULL expression?

Hi,

Okay, Update:

So I set the Mail_Sent_To-HR column to have a default value of No, and changed the condition to the following:

Dovetail_0-1595319322839.png

It runs successful and the expression result is True

Dovetail_1-1595319441985.png

After the mail is sent, the No is updated to a Yes in the Mail_Sent_To_HR column like it should.

The only problem i am facing now is that the flow now sends an email for every leave request

The flow is not sending emails for every leave request, even those that have no been approved yet,

how do i fix this?

@Dovetail, if flow runs for all the items your list has, that probably happens because in the Condition, you are using the Dynamic content fields from the Get items action, use the Dynamic content values from the trigger (When an item is created or modified) instead.

Hi there,

That is exactly what i am doing, i am using content values from the trigger but it runs for all items in my list.

When i use dynamic content Get Items, the condition expression result is false.

Not sure if you were able to get this resolved or not, but I just had the same issue. For me it was the way I had my trigger listed in Sharepoint vs. Powerautomate.  For Me I had "Yes" in the Power Automate Condition field, however in my SharePoint I had "yes".  I had to make sure the characters were matching.
