How i can get the most recent file inside "List files in folder" one drive

I have this flow, where i am getting all the root folders inside a user onedrive:-

then i am using "List files in folder" >> to get all the files inside each root folder. but i do not need all files i only need the latest file inside each of the root folders? any advice?

Hi @johnjohnPter 

I am not too sure if there is a way using the onedrive connectors, is there any chance the folder path is also on sharepoint? Super easy to do for sharepoint folders 🙂

Either use SharePoint instead of OneDrive as suggested by @SamMartin  or add a Compose action to get the topmost item after sorting the array. Set the Compose action to:

first(reverse(sort(outputs('List_files_in_folder')?['body/value'], 'LastModified')))

Here is a design to isolate the most recent modified file inside a OneDrive folder (with some small changes, you can use the same logic for the most created one). You can implement it inside your 'If yes' block of the condition, and let me know if something is not clear enough. If you never worked with expressions before, there is a section from this article with an introductory approach of the feature.  

First, I'm initializing an object variable to store the most recent file. By default, I'm setting the value as the first file returned by 'List files in folder' action. To achieve it, I'm using the expression outputs('List_files_in_folder')?['body/value'][0]:

The [0] accesses the first item of an array. For more details about how to interact with array elements, refer to this article: http://digitalmill.net/2023/07/12/using-loops-and-accessing-array-elements-in-power-automate/.

Then I'm iterating each item from my  'List files in folder' action and inserting a condition that tests if the 'Last modified date' of the file (left side of the condition) is greater than the 'LastModified' attribute of my variable (right side of the condition. To get the 'LastModified' property of the variable, I'm using the expression variables('recent file')['LastModified']:

Finally, I put a 'Set variable' action inside the 'If yes' block of my condition and assign the value of 'Current item', so the object variable can be always updated when a file with a more recent modified date is found:

I've just added a 'Compose' to the end for testing purposes, assigning the value of the variable to it.

After running the flow, it returns the file with the most recent modification, as expected:

I just realized that there's no need to reverse, you can grab the last item of the sorted array:

last(sort(outputs('List_files_in_folder')?['body/value'], 'LastModified'))

@royg  so to get the if of the latest file i need to do something as follow:-

last(sort(outputs('List_files_in_folder')?['body/value'], 'LastModified'))?['ID']

am i correct?

That would be OK in SharePoint. In OneDrive you have the following available fields:

"Id","Name","NameNoExt","DisplayName","Path","LastModified","Size","MediaType","IsFolder","ETag""LastModifiedBy"

Remember to add a Filter array action to ignore folders (filter by IsFolder equals false).
