How to handle Dataverse List Rows that return no results

Hello Community!

As a novice to Power Automate, I am not sure how to handle this situation.  

I have a flow with an action to List Rows from the Dataverse and I am Filtering the Row.  It is common for this List Rows action to not return results.  If no results are returned, I still want the flow to continue.

The next action after List Row is to Update a Row and if no rows are returned from the List Row, I plan to insert a NULL value in the update.  If there is a row returned from the list row I plan to insert a value in the update.

I'm not sure how to handle the List Row when it returns no value.  Right now it stops the Flow as a failure.

Suggestions?

Just making sure I follow your question!

If there are no rows returned, what are you updating? Is it a row in a separate table?

Shouldn't it be, if not rows returned create a row otherwise update.

Yes, the idea is to List Rows and if the row exists use a value from that row to create a new row in a different table.  If a row does not exist then insert a NULL value when creating a new row in a different table.

If it is not a required field, you can insert null using the expression.

You can evaluate the length of the array output by the list rows action to determine the number of matches. If it's empty the length is 0.

Insert a condition step after your list rows action that evaluates the length of the response body.

Insert the length expression in one side of your condition: 

length(outputs('List_Rows')?['body/value'])

and test if equal to 0. 

You can also define the condition as greater than 0 (true if one or more matches), equal to 1 (one exact match only) and so on depending on your requirement.

I did just that!  I added a condition to evaluate the count of records returned from the List Rows action.   I've set the condition to if the length is gte 1.  When this evaluates to true it works with no problem.

However, when the List Rows returns no results the condition fails with the error:

ActionConditionFailed. The execution of template action 'Dynamics_Count' is skipped: the 'runAfter' condition for action 'Get_Dynamics' is not satisfied. Expected status values 'Succeeded' and actual value 'Skipped'.

That suggests the 'Get Dynamics' action is being skipped rather than running and returning no results. You could try to change the 'run after' on your condition, but it sounds like an issue with 'Get_Dynamics'
