Image Aspect Ratio When Populating Word Template with Dynamic Images

I have a flow that takes images of potentially different sizes and aspect ratios and uses them to populate a Word Template using image content controls. When I insert an image into the content control directly from Word it inserts the image as I would aspect maintaining the aspect ratio without going outside the bounds of the image content control. However, when using the Populate Word Template connector it ignores aspect ratio and just stretches or squishes the image to fit the image content control boundaries. Is there a way to get it to behave as it would directly from in word and maintain aspect ratio (leaving whitespace if it doesn't fill the exact ratio of content control)?

I have the same issue. Aspect ratios vary across devices, therefore we should have the ability to set the image control to fill, fit, center, etc. to get the right ratio within the document. 
I have read somewhere you can resize the image within the flow so it has the correct ratio as used within the Word document but that is not really a solution as there might be a loss of critical information in the deleted parts of the image.

The images in my workflow are pictures taken by a Power App. I ended up resizing the image in the template to 16:9 as most mobile phones are also shooting in that aspect ratio by default. Ideally you would like to dynamically adjust the template image by the size of the image you receive from the workflow but it works this way.

This should be a standard feature, probably within the word control itself.

My use case is populating a template from images attached to a SharePoint list. As any aspect ratio could be uploaded, i do not want to stuff about trying to resize the control, just fit the image at its original aspect ratio into the default image control. Will make 16:9 very small, but in my case (and many other i would guess) that would be the desired result.

Has anyone found any solution? We have devices of different kids with different camera settings resulting in different aspect ratios.

I have not so far, no. In the end I have moved to using a third party (paid) connector to PDF the images, which I can then apply watermarks etc. to and arrange at the correct place within my document. Not ideal, as I lose all the document formatting for those pages, but better than weirdly squashed images.

What is the connector you ended up using? Clearly Microsoft is lagging behind in these ways. I'm already using a third-party connector just to merge Word documents, which seems pretty embarrassing for Microsoft not being able to do that.

Hi everyone,

I have a solution for you! There is the Plumsail Documents connector to Power Automate that allows resizing pictures while you populate a document template. If you aren't familiar with Plumsail Documents, i advise you to read the article about generating documents by populating Word templates in Power Automate. You only need to specify the size of the image in the template, and any image will automatically change the size to the one you specified earlier. Here is the link on how to insert pictures in templates. NOTE: picture formatter can be used with resizing options, for example, {{value}:picture(100,100)} . Also, you can specify only the width parameter, and height will be calculated automatically to keep the image proportions. For example, {{value}:picture(50)}.

The solution is free on the 30-day trial period, and no credit card is required, so i hope you can try this solution without any problem.
