Issues with parsing JSON

I have a flow that pulls data from an http request:

The pull works and I get this as my response in the output of the JSON step:

I would like to build a list of JUST the PO numbers from the JSON pull, so my next step after the parse is a Select statement.
I used the body documents from the prior step:
astrontelstar_1-1707052634400.png

Then I used this for my PO:

astrontelstar_2-1707052682873.png

When I run the flow I get an error:

astrontelstar_3-1707052763193.png

Any help?

Hi @astrontelstar ,

If the structure of the incoming JSON data changes - for instance, if new fields are added, existing fields are removed, or the data type of a field changes - the schema that you originally provided to the Parse JSON function may no longer match the actual structure of the data. When this happens, the Parse JSON function may fail to parse the data correctly, leading to errors in your flow or unexpected behaviour.

Hi @astrontelstar ,

If you just want a list of PO numbers, try the following:

Switch the Select action to "text mode". Make sure that the Map part of the Select action is empty before switching to "text mode":

Snag_dbd661.png

Next search or find the PO property:

Snag_cf33e2.png

Add the poNum property to the Select action

Snag_cf72a0.png

This will give you an array containing just the PO numbers. Based on your sample data there is currently only one PO:

[
  "2025001"
]

thank you for the quick response.  It still gives me an error:

Here is the select

astrontelstar_1-1707061661340.png

Hi @astrontelstar ,

The message says that the documents property is empty (i.e. doesn't contain any data). Based on your sample data, this is the structure of your data:

Snag_119dfe9.png

Can you copy-and-paste the output of the HTTP body action which is producing the error. It could be that during this run of the flow, no data is being retrieved:

Hi @astrontelstar ,

I wan to bypass the Parse JSON action. Can you enter the following expressions into the Select action and re-run the flow:

from: body('HTTP')?['documents']
Map:  item()?['header']?['pONum']

Snag_13a8fc5.png

Snag_13abe95.png

Sample runtime output:

Ok, here ya go.

astrontelstar_0-1707071547301.png

Actually sorry I retyped it as an expression and it worked.

[
"2024024",
"2024025",
"2025001"
]

However, I'm perplexed why when I use parseJSON from the HTTP output and seemingly get a set of objects, why can't I dynamically do a select and get the same result?  The problem is I want to know why what I was trying isn't working as well.  ???

Hi @astrontelstar ,

If the structure of the incoming JSON data changes - for instance, if new fields are added, existing fields are removed, or the data type of a field changes - the schema that you originally provided to the Parse JSON function may no longer match the actual structure of the data. When this happens, the Parse JSON function may fail to parse the data correctly, leading to errors in your flow or unexpected behaviour.
