List rows present in a table modifying excel file?

Hi, 

I have built a flow with a sharepoint trigger when a file is created or modified in a folder. The next actions are to list rows present in a table from the excel file in the sharepoint folder and then copy those rows to a sharepoint list. 

The list rows present in a table step appears to be modifying the excel file in some way which then sets off a second flow. I can see in the version history on sharepoint that a second (larger) file is created but can't see any differences between the two files. 

I have pagination turned on the list rows action as there are around 500 rows in the table.

Can anyone help me with why this action is making a modification to the excel file and let me know if there is any way to prevent this?

Hi @kd23 

There is no reason why this is happening other than any other flow or process being triggered based on the actions being executed as a part of the current flow. 

Can you share the current flow configuration? and confirm that you do not have any other flow that is getting triggered based on the actions being executed in this flow?

I have tested it on my side that creates a Flow to run Action -List rows present in a table but hasn't found the excel file will be modified.

Could you please share your two Flows' configuration? So we can better analyze where your problem is.

About your issue that some action may set off a second flow, cause you are using When a file is created or modified Action, you can use the specified folder set in the trigger to avoid triggering the second flow repeatedly.

By the way, according to your requirements, when updating the SharePoint list from excel, you may need to clean up the data before the SharePoint list in order to prevent duplication of information, such as using Get items and Delete item Actions.

Thanks for your response. 

I have done further testing this morning and have narrowed the problem down to this - 

The excel file being uploaded to SharePoint is an export from the Power BI service. When I save the export and upload to SharePoint without opening the file then I get the error - the file is modified when the flow runs and a second flow is triggered. 

However, when I open the Power BI export, save as and then upload to SharePoint the flow works as expected. 

I am not clear why this is happening but I can replicate this every time. Any ideas what might cause this? 

Could you please give me some more details on how I can prevent the second flow triggering so that I can add this to my flow?

I have the same issue.  flow was trigger 2nd time after the action List rows present in a table was called.  if I remove this action, it works fine.  The trigger I used - when a file is created or modified ( properties only).  anyone has solution?

I just ran into the same issue.

What works for me is to make a copy of the file to another libary and extract the data from the copy.
