Time condition

Hello

I would like to build a flow in power automate that sends an email for every page that I have in my library "Site Pages" that has been modified today.

I have two problems:
1. When 1 run it, it automatically stops after 100 pages, but my library consists of 135 pages.

2. I do not receive any emails when I run it.

What do I do wrong?

Thank you in advance

Louis

You can find screenshots of my flow here bellow.

It looks like this is a multi-person column.

Therefore, you get an array when you use items('Apply_to_each_2')?['SME']

Try this to get the first person:

first(items('Apply_to_each_2')?['SME'])?['Email']

1. This is the default limit. To get more items, turn on pagination

2. "Modified" is probably a date (and time) in the past. utcNow() is the present. Why should this be equal?

Also, do you really want to send one email per file?
Wouldn't it be more convenient to send an email with a list of files?

Just filter the list and send the outcome as a HTML table in an email.

Hi,

Thank you for your fast answer.

1. Perfect! Thank you

2. In the future I would like to change the condition to "if the last modification was more than one year ago". But I just created my sharepoint a couple of days ago, so to test if the emails are sending I wanted to use the condition "if the last modification date was today". As you can see on the screenshot bellow, there are pages that were modified today... Do you have an idea why the emails do not send?

Thank you in advance

Louis

I prefer to send one email for every page, because every page is assigned to a different owner. So in the future I will not send the emails to myself but to the owners of the pages.

Sure

The values from "Modified" and utcNow() contain a time that is not equal.

To fix this you can either use

the expression startOfDay() on both values

or

formatDateTime() with the format string 'yyyy-MM-dd'

or

check with greaterOrEquals() and less() against the start of today and the start of tomorrow

I changed the condition to "Modified is greater than yesterday (=addDays(atcnow(),-1)"

I ran it but it has been running for almost 15min...

That's the main issue with your flow "architecture":

You are looping over more than 100 items.

To fix this, use the "Filter array" action to filter the items upfront instead of using a condition within a loop.

Just saw it, you have an (unneccessary) nested "Apply to each" loop.

Meaning you loop 100x100 times. This will take a while and you probably should cancel this run.

I created an example:

Chriddle_0-1704794208881.png

I filter the Sharpoint items for items that are older than 7 days, put the outcome into a HTML table and send this table via email.

Without any loop, this will take only a few seconds.

Thank you very much! It works when I close the "apply to each" loop.

But I still have one last question, because now I cannot use dynamic content. Every time I add dynamic content to the email, an "apply to each" loop is created from itself. How can I add dynamic content, without having an "apply to each" loop that comes up?

Okay thank you!

With this example, can I send the pages to their specific owners?

No, this would mean you have to filter the items again for these owners and loop over the owners.
Hint: You can get a list of the owners with a Select action.

Hi @Chriddle !
Thank you for all your help!
I still have one last question 🙂 In the example of the screenshot bellow. Every time I add dynamic content to the email, an "apply to each" loop is created from itself. How can I add dynamic content, without having an "apply to each" loop that comes up?

louisquinet_0-1704796187830.png

This happens because you get "Email" as a property from an item of the "Get files" array.

Here you want "Email" from the current item of the "Apply to each":

items('Apply_to_each')?['Author/Email']

Hi thank you for your answer. So what do I have to do to resolve the problem? Sorry, I am a beginner at power automate...

Check what items() can do for you and replace "Email" (from the Dynamic content) with the expression above.

Then you will be able to drag tje "Send email" outside the inner "Apply  to each" and delete the loop.

Thank you

Hi @Chriddle,

Sorry for my late response.

When I try to do it with the expression I receive the following error message : Flow save failed with code 'InvalidTemplate' and message 'The template validation failed: 'The repetition action(s) 'Apply_to_each' referenced by 'inputs' in action 'Send_an_email_(V2)' are not defined in the template.'.'.

You can see a screenshot here bellow:

louisquinet_1-1704813722335.png

Do you know what I do wrong? (I filled it in in "Subject" and not in "To", because I want to test it first before sending everybody emails.)

I also tried it with "SME/Email" intead of "Author/Email", because that is the person I want to send it to, but it does not work either. You can see a screenshot here bellow:

Thank you in advance

Louis
