Trigger condition to run a flow only when a certain condition is met

Hi,

I have an automated cloud flow that runs when an item is created or modified in a SharePoint list. I’d like to configure it to run only if a Yes/No field named “Generate Report” in the SharePoint list, is set to “Yes”.

I have tried a dozen different expressions and none of them work. My latest attempt was this:

@Anonymous(equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/Generate Report'],null))

@Anonymous(equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/Generate Report'],false))

The above are both in the “Trigger Conditions” in the “settings” for the action “when an item is created or modified”.

No matter what I try, either the flow does not run at all or, I get a variety of error messages.

Can anyone help me with this expression? I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I even tried using the “filter array” action to no avail.

Instead of filtering the trigger you can consider checking the changed item

Your issue is that you are not using the internal name of the fields in your trigger condition. I can tell this because internal names do not contain any spaces. Tip: build your expression in a compose action so that you can use the expression builder. This way, you can choose the field from the dynamic content:

This way, once you have the expression built, you can copy it and just have to remember to put @ before it in the trigger condition. If you want to write them by hand, you can get the internal name of your field by going to the settings in SharePoint and click on the field. At the end of the URL it will say field=, what follows is the internal name of the field.

You may also want to change your second trigger from @not(equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/GenerateReport'],false)) to equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/GenerateReport'],true), which would be the same thing but shorter. That way if you have some items where the field is blank for some reason (e.g., you added the field after the list already contained items), it will not give you a false trigger since blank is not false.

Thanks so much for this David. Meanwhile, I figure it out.

I wanted to keep my request simple so I didn't put this in my original post, but there are actually 2 fields involved: Generate Report and Generate final report, so I needed an "or" condition trigger. 

This worked:

@Anonymous(equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/GenerateReport'], true),equals(triggerOutputs()?['body/GenerateFinalReport'], true))

you were right about the internal field names too. In stead of compose, I used filter array to get the correct expression.
