Trouble updating claims field in list

I have a master employee list.

I have a flow which creates a new entry in the list when a new employee completes an on-boarding form.

I have a flow which, when the new entry is created, creates a new AD user. That works fine.

I want the 2nd flow, as a final step, the update the new Employee entry with the User ID from AD. I have spent two whole days so far trying to get that step to work and am at wit's end so looking for some guidance here.

The method I am trying to use to update the Sharepoint list is Sharepoint update item.

2020-12-11 16_51_19-Edit your flow _ Power Automate - Brave.png

It looks like this:

BPE1.png

The Variable User ID email looks like this:

BPE2.png

The two trim functions are:

trim(toLower(triggerBody()?['Given_x0020_Names']))
and
trim(toLower(triggerBody()?['Title']))

The resultant error in running this is

Error
Action 'Update_Master_list_with_Email_ID' failed
Error Details
The specified user i:0#.f|membership|testy.mcdinkaface@xxxxxx.com.au could not be found.

serviceRequestId: fd79dd2e-84d0-4c8f-9127-a00023e99695

I have obfuscated the domain for my client's privacy.

But that user does exist, it has been created as part of the flow and I check and it does exist, if I manually update the list with that user it goes in fine.
I have tried so many different iterations of syntaxes in the ...User ID Claims field and in fact, had a success on one run but when I ran it again with a different user it failed again so I am looking for some guidance as to what I should have in the ...User ID Claims field, please.
My whole flow looks like this:

I also tried an expression directly in the ...User ID Claims field which was a string of the user's email address and also with it prefixed by i:0#.f|membership| but they both failed.

I would really appreciate some guidance please.

Hi @KarlInOz1,

The problem is not the domain. So I can see your Flow has a Create User action of Auzre AD connector, so do you want to add the new added user into the item personal field?

If so, the problem is that after create the user, system need time to prepare for the UPN, so you should add a delay action, set about 10 minutes to wait, then use the UPN to update the field, for example:

Hi @KarlInOz1,

It seems that the User ID is a single person field, right?

There is no need to add the prefix into the email, email is enough, but you should make sure the user is located in your organization, for example:

Hi @v-litu-msft thank you for your response and advice.

Yes, it is just a single user and they are located in our organisation so I'm mystified as to why it is not working 98% of the time. I have had two instances where it has worked but when I do a repeat run with another new user it fails.

No, wait, hang on a minute...

When you say

...but you should make sure the user is located in your organization, for example:

are you saying I need to use the alias for users ending in .onmicrosoft.com instead of their company domain?
so instead of myuser@clientscompany.com.au (which is the usual user they are using) I should be using myuser@clientscompany.onmicrosoft.com ?

Aha, yes @v-litu-msft I think you are probably correct, I was thinking it could be a timing issue but didn't follow it through. I will put a delay in and try it. Thank you for the lead.

@v-litu-msft Thank you once again for your guidance. The issue does seem to be a timing one. The two test runs I just performed, after adding the delay, have both been successful so I'm accepting yours as the solution.

A question though; does the delay time count as execution time for billing?
