Update multiple choice sharepoint list

My list has a multiple choice column called 'Audits'. When various audits are completed, the list will automatically be updated with the corresponding audit result using Automate.

So far the choices are similar to:

Audit 1 - pass

Audit 1 - fail

Audit 2 - pass

Audit 2 - fail

A record might have done both audits and I need the flow to update with the result of the 2nd audit without getting rid of the first audit result

So I have tried Initialise variable > Append to array >

{
"Value": "[Audits]"
}

Which although it does update the list, it shows with all the extra code:

misc_0-1644244971575.png

or if I append to array [Audits Value] I get an error:

the result of the evaluation of 'foreach' expression '@items('Apply_to_each_3')' is of type 'Object'. The result must be a valid array.

What am I missing?

(I realise I will need to append the new audit result to this array too, but I just need to make sure I can get the previous result working first)

Updating this as I have found a solution, through another post I made on here yesterday which can be found here: https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Flows/Create-string-from-array-multiple-choice-sharepoi... Thansk to @abm for the solution in his video.

Essentially, Select = item()?['value], Join > output of Join used in the array instead of the direct dynamic content

Hi @misc ,

Do you want to update the multiple choice column in SharePoint List?

The multiple choice column expects the values to be in the below format:

[
  {
    "Value": "Audit 1 - pass"
  },
  {
    "Value": "Audit 2 - pass"
  }
]

I have made a test for your reference.

1. Here is my SharePoint List.

2. Create a Flow.

first(outputs('Start_and_wait_for_an_approval')?['body/responses'])?['approverResponse']
first(outputs('Start_and_wait_for_an_approval_2')?['body/responses'])?['approverResponse']

So yes, I want the flow to update a multiple choice column and IF that column already has a previous choice selected, I want it to 'add' the new choice without losing the previous (if I just did 'update item', it would select the new choice but won't keep the old.)

I was trying to simplify things in my description and I think I might have confused things further. Here's a screenshot of how far I've got:

flow1.png

This ends up with the result looking like:

misc_0-1644400499524.png

and obviously I want to get rid of all the code and just have the actual result.

There are actually 4 potential 'Audit 1' results as well as 4 potential 'Audit 2' results (And we will have additional audits each with 4 possible responses going forward too which will only add to this), and so it would be much easier to refer to the previous selections via dynamic content but this is where I'm getting stuck. Is this not possible?

Hi @misc ,

I noticed that you are using dynamic content in this section, could you please check if the output of this section is in the correct format?

Maybe you could try not using dynamic content in this section and then run it again:

Yes, that's sort of the entire point.  I want to use dynamic content here because otherwise the only way I can see to do it accurately is to have multiple nested Switch actions which I wanted to avoid (especially as we are going to have a total of 11 different thematic audits and want the result of each to eventually be shown in this column)

If I don't use dynamic content it works fine, but I need it to be able to automatically read what the column's original data was (which could actually be a choice of 4 different results), and just add the newest result to that.
