Adding Entries to a Sharepoint List Using Two Screens and Two Edit Forms

I am new to powerapps and I am making an app to add entries to a sharepoint list which by itself is pretty simple. However, I want to use two edit forms and two separate screens to enter the data to avoid having such a large scroll window if I were to do it with one screen. I cannot figure out how to split up the data entry into two separate screens and have it add the record to the sharepoint list without creating two different entries. I am working from the default powerapps layout with a browse screen using a gallery, a screen to view the details of the record with a detail form, a third screen to edit/create an entry using an edit form, and then I will add a fourth screen with another edit form to finish entering the data. Can anyone explain how to use two separate screens and edit forms to add data to one single sharepoint entry and be able to go back and edit the entry? Thanks.

I've never done this, but you could add two screens with TextInputs / DropDowns / ComboBoxes / DatePickers relevant to your Form fields and have the Form datacards reference these for their data.

Eg

NewScreen1:

DatePicker1 --> Form1.DatePicker1.Default = DatePicker1.SelectedDate

TextInput1 --> Form1.Name.Default = TextInput1.Text, etc

NewScreen2:

... more of the same

Other features:

- setup your design how you want eg above elements have a descriptive label as well

- keep the current form as is, but just add in above references

- don't allow users to navigate to this form, no need

- NewScreen1 has "Next" button that navigates to NewScreen2

- NewScreen2 has a "Save" (and maybe 'Back') button which is just SubmitForm(Form1)

Patch is probably your friend when it comes to this.

First set up your edit forms. These can be set up either on the same page or different pages, just make sure you give each form a unique name.

For this example, I am going to assume that you are using a button to submit the data once it has been entered. 

To use the patch function, in the OnSelect property of the button enter the following:

Patch(YourListName).Defaults(YourListName),Form1.Updates,Form2.Updates.Form3.Updates)

This will submit all the data from each of the forms into the same record in your data source. See example.

I totally agree with @Anonymous 's idea, that's exactly what I did. Using Patch function instead of EditForm function to save the Two Form value field to one single record.

However, One thing I want to add. Since you are using an auto-generated app, the EditForm could be used for New and Edit. Therefore, we need to add a judgment condition to make the Patch function meet the requirements of New and Edit.

1. Set OnSelect of 'Add' Icon: NewForm(Form1);NewForm(Form2);Navigate(EditScreen1, ScreenTransition.None)

2. Set OnSelect of 'Edit' Icon: EditForm(Form1);EditForm(Form2);Navigate(EditScreen1, ScreenTransition.None)

3. Set OnSelect of 'Accept' Icon: 

If(Form1.Mode=FormMode.New && Form2.Mode=FormMode.New, Patch('SP list',Defaults('SP list'),Form1.Updates,Form2.Updates), 
Form1.Mode=FormMode.Edit && Form2.Mode=FormMode.Edit, Patch('SP list',BrowseGallery1.Selected,Form1.Updates,Form2.Updates))

@v-siky-msft your method works great for adding entries and making edits to my first data entry screen. Thanks you! However, when I am editing the entry and I navigate to the second edit screen none of my data fields are showing up. The second edit screen is made up entirely of drop down selections. Do I need to change something with the settings of the drop down menus to get them to show up in edit mode? They work fine when I create a new entry.

have you got your default form mode set to new instead of edit?

@Anonymous  the default mode for both form1 and form 2 is set to edit.

Are the fields not showing up in run mode, or in both?  If they are not showing up in run mode, then the default mode needs to be set to new. If they are not showing up in edit mode, might be a different issue - do you have a screen shot?

@Anonymous  see the attached photos from run mode. sorry, had to blur out the info but it should still show the issue. And yes, they always show up when I am editing the app but when I play it in run mode is when I have issues. I set the default mode to new and it still didn't show up in run mode.

Yep, i'm pretty sure that you need to set your default form mode to new:
