Auto Numbering in SharePoint List

Hi Power Automate Community,

I am trying to build a flow for giving each item in SharePoint List a unique and ordered number.

My scenario is that I have 2 SP lists, 1. for Project and 2. for Tasks.

The Project list contains columns for the Project name and the Project Priority.

Project_name	Project_Priority
A	1
B	2
C	3

The project priority can change (So B can be 1 and A can be 2), users can change the priority in Power Apps.

The Task list contains columns for the 1. Task description; 2. (Project Name); and 3. Task Number. 

Task_Desc	Project_Name	Task_Number
Fix AA	A	1
Fix AB	A	2
Fix BA	B	3
Fix BB	B	4
Fix CA	C	5
Fix CB	C	6

I have an issue with Task Number, because if the Priority of one of the Projects change, the task numbering needs to also change.
For Example: If project B becomes 1 and A becomes 2, the Task_Number of Project A needs to change to AA  -> 3 and AB -> 4. And the Task_Numbers of Project B needs to change to BA -> 1 and BB -> 2. (This also counts for Project C).

In short, the task numbers needs be in the same order and sequence based on the priority of the Project.

I have a gallery in Power Apps for the Projects and in the Gallery of the Projects I have another gallery (nested gallery) for the tasks.

Does someone know how I can achieve this?

Hey! 

For Auto number you can do something like:

First(Sort(YOURDATASOURCE; ID; Descending)).ID + 1

If you need you can also filter inside the sort

Well agree with your formula about the auto-numbering, but the formula is based on a fixed scenario for example if I want to add a new item.

But my problem lies more on the organizing part. So PowerApps to arrange the items in the right sequence.

Hi @JB0007,

Not Sure this can help but my suggesstion below

Consider you have parent Record Available

in the Child

Set(getChildRowsForParent,CountRows(Filter(childTableName,childtableNameForParentID = ParentTableID));

in the Above Code you will get the count of Child Records for Parent Accordingly you can increament the count getChildRowsForParent+1

Your suggestion will work until you have>2k records, then will fail since CountRows() is not delegatable.
