Building an inventory system in PowerApps using a barcode scanner.

Hello,

First of all, I would like to mention that I am just starting my adventure with PowerApps, so I apologize in advance if I don't understand something right away 🙂

I'm in the process of creating an IT equipment inventory system. I have created a SharePoint list containing all the necessary information. I'm having trouble displaying the result of scanning a QR code (which contains the device's serial number) in a Searchbox that will search for the device's data in the previously mentioned SharePoint list and shot it on screen.

I know there are already several topics like this (I've read them all), but none of them helped me execute this correctly. (It's possible that my knowledge is too limited)
Below, I'm sending a screenshot of the SharePoint list to make it easier to understand the data I'm working with.

Hi Piotrexpondo!

First thing's first, we need to make sure you can pass the scanned barcode value to a text input in your app:

Get the code from the barcode scanners OnScan() event:

In this instance, we'll set a variable with the results of the barcode scanner, when it scans a barcode.

In the barcode scanner properties (top left), select the OnScan event:

We'll add the following formula to capture the scanned code:

Set(gvScannedCode, First(Self.Barcodes).Value)

The above code will set the variable to the last barcode we scanned, we then need to reset our TextInput, this is so our Default Value is updated in the field.

We then need to select our Textbox and define the Default Property as the variable gvScannedCode

I'm not sure how you're displaying your SharePoint data, but typically we'd want to filter the SharePoint list by the Serial Number field. So you're Gallery/Datatable control will need a filter formula for it's Items property something along the lines of:

Filter(<<SharePoint List>>, StartsWith(ThisRecord.SN, TextInput1.Text))

This filter will test if the value of the search text box (which, if a barcode has been scanned, will be the value of the barcode) and return results matching that.

Hello again,

I have encountered an issue with item search. Currently, the search field only works for the Serial Number. I would like to have the ability to search by other fields such as Laptop Model or the person currently assigned to a particular piece of equipment. Thanks for your help 🙂
