Business Card Reader error

Once I've imported app that contained Business Card Reader control (from AI Builder group) and tried to use is the app (by clicking on it) the PowerApps returned an error as below. I tried it on different tenants - including vanilla fresh environment, and the results are the same.

Hello !

Can you please clarify the exact sequence of events ?

You can also contact the AI Builder team through the Need Help ? / Contact Us link : it will prefill some ids that the team can use to debug.

Thanks !

@jk_one Sure.
1. Create a solution with AI Business Card Reader control in Tenant A.
2. Export the solution using "Export Package (preview)"

3. Import package in Tenant B.

4. Open the app

5. Use the Business Card Reader control in the app...Error 😞

@jk_one : where is the link to contact AI team you've mentioned? I cannot find it 😞

Hi @Mike_Guzowski ,

Could you please share a bit more about the error message within your app?

Could you please share a bit more about the Tenant B?

Further, is the Tenant B bind to a proper Environment whose Region set to United States or Europe?

Based on the issue that you mentioned, I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue that you mentioned. Please check if the Tenant B is bind to a proper Environment whose Region set to United States or Europe.

Currently, wtihin PowerApps, the "Business card render" control/functionality under the AI Builder (Preview) group is not supported/available in United States and Europe regions.

Note: Currently, the AI Builder functionality is only available within the Environment which bind to United States and Europe regions.

Please check the following article for more details:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/ai-builder/administer#supported-regions

So if your Tenant B is not bind to a proper PowerApps Environment whose Region set to United States or Europe, you could not use the "Business card render" control/functionality within the canvas app which contains the Business Card Reader control.

On your side, please consider create a new Production Environment, and then set the Region to United States or Europe (please also make sure you have set up a Common Data Service within your app). Then import your solution into this new Environment, then check if the issue is solved.

In addition, please also check if you have chosen a proper Business Card picture for the Business Card Render control to detect within your canvas app. I have made a test on my side, the screenshot as below:9.JPG

Definetely there is something wrong with it, I have the same issue (yet another one too).

What i did:

1 - Create Business Card Reader canvas app with a button that creates it as lead on Dynamics 365 using a PowerApps flow button, works nice.

2 - Because I am forced to create flow from the PowerApps, now I can't add it to a solution, so i create a managed solution containing the Business Card Reader app, and I manually export the flow as .zip.

3 - Import flow on target environment.

4 - Import managed solution on target environment.

5 - Business Card Reader does not work on preview nor on a phone, same error as mentioned.

6 - Button does not work either, because I guess the GUID changed and the flow imported is not bind to my button so it messes up.

7 - Because the solution is managed, I can't manually redo the app, so i am stuck. Only way would be to try to redo it on target enviroment as unmanaged.

I will update if find any solution to this.

Best regards.

Update on this:

I managed to solve the flow issue exporting the app instead of moving it inside a solution, that forces the flow to go with it.

The main issue is definetely related to the APP itself. If i remove the control and add it again after importe it still does not work, but if I create a different app and add it it works.

The bug is hold on the app itself.

@Mike_Guzowski @v-xida-msft I found the solution for the issue, the problem comes from the "Display image" option.

Lector de tarjetas de visita.png

I set that to false, save & publish the app, set it to true again, save & publish and Business Card Reader is working again on target environment as expected.

@v-xida-msft :

Both tenants has CDS database, both tenants has only 1 environment which is in the European region (but the same happens when I've added extra production environment). Support for CDS in the app is turned on.

If you need any more information let me know!

I'm attaching my app file - please check if it works for you once you import it.

@AleixRuizSor : it's not this property setting. It's even on the step before this setting takes place (image rendering). When I click on control and select proper image the error shows up (exactly when the image processing should happen).

@Mike_Guzowski  I attach you a live fix of this bug. Try it out and tell us if it works for you, I am not sure what fixes it, but those steps work for me. When the control disappears it is me doing copy-paste.

It is in spanish, but I am sure you are familiar with the interface.

Video live bug fix

@Mike_Guzowski messing around, I found out that it is required for the business card reader to work that the user  has the role "Common Data Service User" in Dynamics 365, without it there is a backend post request that returns error and displays the "Something went wrong".

Try if that helps you fix your issue.

Best regards.
