COMBOBOX Issuess!

When a user selects multiple items from the combox field and submits it, they are able to do that but when they reopen the form to edit it, the selected items disappear and only 1 item is shown.

The DefaultSelectedItems value of my combobox is : { Result: Parent.Default }.

Please advice.

There's nuances to this. When you concatenate the selected items in the combobox, you need to put in logic to place the delimiter for all options except the last. If you Split a string where the semi-colon is behind the last option, you'll get a blank row for the last one.

OR, when you use the Split() function to break apart each option, you need to filter out any results that are blank.

Filter(Split(ThisItem.Column,";"),!IsBlank(Result))

This means, "Split up what's in the column each time there is a semi-colon. Then show only the rows where the result is not blank."

Thankyou!!! This is great and it works  now.

Hi,

I have tried the method of concatenating all the strings from the combobox selection, using "," as my delimiter, and spliting the string up in the combobox's defaultselecteditems field. It is not showing any errors but my combobox is only displaying the text place holder and not the items from the string.

I am storing the concatented string in an excel table under a single column.

DataCard Update Field:

Concat(ComboBox1_4.SelectedItems,TypeofInjuryList,", ")

CoboBox Default Selected Items:

Split('TypeofInjury(s)', ",")

I have tried solving this many different ways but haven't managed to figure it out. This seems to be the closet I have gotten but I may have overlooked something.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @whitciv,

I think the error you're coming across is your Concat statement. You may want to use an ampersand between TypeofInjuryList and "," to show that you want a comma after each selected injury.

Concat(ComboBox1_4.SelectedItems,TypeofInjuryList & ", ")

Hi @Mr-Dang-MSFT

I have tried your suggestion but I still haven't had any luck. I think my data is being stored correctly as you can see in the image below.

I think the split function is not producing the required output. Is there a way for me to see the output that the function is producing such as assigning it to a variable?

Thanks

@whitciv

Try this :

On your comobox , set DefaultSelectedItems : Split(ThisItem.DataCardKey, ", ")  - (In my case I did  DefaultSelectedItems : Split(ThisItem.Location, ", ")

Set the SelectMultiple Property of the combobox : true

On Combobox, set  displayfield property: ["Result"]

On combobox set searchfield property: ["Result"]

Default property of the DataCard: ThisItem. columnName (in my case I had combobox for location so I set ThisItem.Location)

and in your patch function use this columName:Concat(ComboBox.SelectedItems, Result, ", ") - (In my case I gave

 Location:Concat(ComboBox2.SelectedItems, Result, ", ")

Hope this helps!!

Hi @asdeev,
I am using the datacards update field to store the selected items in Excel as apposed to using the patch function. I have a save button with the on select field as SubmitForm(IncidentForm).

I have added images of my ComboBox and DataCard fields to hopefully help you see where I may be going wrong.

Thanks.

Thanks for this thread,

I sticked on the same problem. Using the default examples with for us useless Displayfields and Searchfields entries, it is function but with userdefined declarations its goin wrong.
I think there is a little buggy work neccessary, because when we only want to show preselected Items of a datasource in the combobox to be highlightend, delivered in a perfect one column table (in DefaultSelectedItems), the Combobox is not able get a proper result.

I used now the following workaround NOT solution !
I generated this String "test1, test2, test3, test4," (a combobox result) out of a "TestDatabase", Columnname "ProductTestName".
Then I used a galleryselect to get the record/column with this "GalleryProductTest.Selected.Testnames" (read this Column as string) and did the following coding:

Filter(TestDatabase, ProductTestName in GalleryProductTest.Selected.Testnames)
Filter(Datasource, DatasourceColumn in Record.Selected.Column)

Thats it !
I guess this filterfunction has good relation to the combobox 😉 and will bring good results even with other record selections.

Tell me if it was helpful ....
