Calling up other relational table data in a chart on a model driven dashboard

How do I get a chart or dashboard to load data through a table relationship?

I have a master table that lists projects which is the root table, it has two identifying columns, a projectcode and a globalcode, the project code being from design, and a globalcode being an abbreviation of the customer and the location or the field and so on. The globalcode is the primary column.

However I have another table and am experimenting with model driven dashboards. I am creating a time chart for collection time for things like design or research for a given project, when I lookup into the master table it only shows the global code obviously when adding the relation. But when I chart data, unless I also include the project number in the time chart table, I can't seem to get it to give me the project number it will just show the globalcode, as design revolves around project numbers more so than the globalcode, they want to see project code in reference to their time.

Before this I did everything in canvas apps and could use formula to have a lot more flexibility, but I'm not sure of what I could do in model driven apps, short of having a flow copy the master table project number into the time chart project code column shortly after an entry is made.

Another issue is I have a tasks table that lists specifics and the category as two columns, i.e design might have 3 specifics but ultimately its design, so Mould Design is a specific, but then the other column is just 'Design'

So there can be two breakdowns, they may have done 1 hour of mould design over their week and then 1 hour of concept design which can be tabled for a sub report, but then an overall chart for the project should be able to read the other column and so overall 2 hours for design, however I can't get it to give me that, it just wants to break everything down into Mould design or concept design and so on in model driven.

I am new to all of this, and I'm wanting to go further into model driven for responsiveness. But I want to get the data right and maintain thorough referential integrity.

I have read that data verse doesn't behave like people would hope when it comes to this, but what can I do to get around this?

If you already do this well in a Canvas App, I recommend you embed the working Canvas app directly on a model-driven form using these steps.

I will have to experiment some more.

I'm just cautious to make sure I get it as right as possible especially with the tabling and relationships
