Cascading drop-down not saving onto SharePoint

Hi all

 

I have only one data source (TblComplaintsDataSP) which has the following columns:

 

Area (Choice column)

AreaProcessDetail (Choice column)

Root Cause (Choice column)

Root Cause Detail (Choice column) 

 

On my App, I have coded it so the dropdowns on both AreaProcessDetail and RootCauseDetail only show the choices I want depending on the option selected on both Area and Root Cause.

 

Here's an example, the code on the app for the "Area" datacard is: 

- Update property: drpArea.Selected.Value

 

Now the code for the actual dropdown is:

- Items: Choices([TblComplaintsDataSP].Area

 

The dropdown is working fine, but it is not saving onto the SharePoint when I click the Save button (Patch(TblComplaintsDataSP, galComplaintsGallery.Selected, frmPhase2.Updates);
Navigate(DataPage, ScreenTransition.Fade);
Refresh(TblComplaintsDataSP);)

 

I'll give you the code for the cascading dropdown dependant on "Area":

Again, the cascading dropdown is working fine, the choices shown are the ones that are meant to be showing based on the choice selected in "Area". But neither seem to be saving onto the Sharepoint.

Hi @PM6,

Actually, the Choice column expects a record type value instead of a text value as you wrote like drpArea.Selected.Value.

Please modify the Update property of drpArea data card as below:

drpArea.Selected

And modify the Update property of data card including the cacading dropdown control as below:

drpAreaProcessDetail.Selected

 

Please repeat the above steps for the other two dropdown controls.

When I try to change the Update property to drpArea.Selected, I get an error message saying "Expected Text value" - which I don't really understand since my column on SP is Choice.

So weird.

 

Try:

{Value:drpArea.Selected.Value}

If it does not work either, try the following formula even thgough I think it is impossible:

drpArea.Selected.Area

That doesn't seem to be working either - still expects a Text value. This is why I'm struggling as the rest of the dropdowns on the form are a record value and are working fine, it just seems to be these 4 and the only difference between them is that they're cascading.

 

Thanks for the help anyway! I'll continue to try different things but do let me know if anything else comes to mind!

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.
