Change Value of a Dropdown on Checkbox Selection

Hi,

I am building an App where i want to collect user agreement/consent. So the Idea is adding a check box and enforcing user to tick the checkbox before submitting the form. At the backend the application is connected to a SharePoint list where i want to collect the users response.

As per my initial understanding, i have created a column in the SharePoint list with options (Yes/No), but in the application front-end i want a checkbox for user to check/in-check. I am not sure how to configure it like, when the user tick's the checkbox then the value of the column to be changed to 'Yes' & if unchecked then the value to be changed to 'No'. I tried using Patch function on the Checkbox OnCheck & OnUnCheck but not getting the expected results.

Requesting for help. Not sure whether this is the right approach but i would be fine to use any other efficient way to achieve this.

Regards,

Hi @Florian_Kleinz,

I got the solution finally. Below the same.

The choice field was causing the problem.

In SharePoint List

1. I deleted the choice filed and created a new field (namely: Consent) of single line of text with limit of 5 characters.

2. Set the default value as 'No' of the new field.

In PowerApps

3. Inserted a Choice input

4. OnCheck property configured with 'Set(varConsent, "Yes")'

5. OnUnCheck property configured with 'Set(varConsent, "No")'

6. Added the newly created field namely Consent in to the form.

7. Set the Default property of consent to 'varConsent'

8. Set the Visible property of Consent field to false so that it will not be visible to the end users.

9. Setup a validation to the button that If(ConsentDataCardValue = "No", Notify("Please Provide Consent"), SubmitForm(Form1).

This helped to get the desired results. But thanks for helping by suggesting different workarounds.

Regards,

Akshay

Hi,

could you give us a screenshot of your current approach?

A checkbox delivers true/false values anyway, so you could easily use a checkbox or a toggle for this purpose.

Do you want the user to be able to submit without checking the checkbox?

If not you could hide it or set DisplayMode to view so the user could not submit the form.

Best regards

Florian

Hello @Florian_Kleinz,

Thanks for quick response!

I have my responses below.

A checkbox delivers true/false values anyway, so you could easily use a checkbox or a toggle for this purpose.

Could you please explain how to use it?

Do you want the user to be able to submit without checking the checkbox?

No. The checkbox must be checked and then only user should be able to submit the form.

If not you could hide it or set DisplayMode to view so the user could not submit the form.

Yes we can do that or we can add a notification on button click that 'The checkbox must be checked'

Hi,

Please check the video about conditional formatting by Shane Young.

This should help to see how to force people to check the box.

If you need further assistance afterwards I would be happy to help.

Best regards Florian

Hello @Florian_Kleinz,

Thanks again for the reference. I got the idea the how can we restrict users to make the required action.

But how can I link the Checkbox to a choice column in SP?

What I am expecting that, when the checkbox is checked then the column value must be changed to Yes and when the checkbox is un-checked then the value of the column to be No.

How can I achieve that?

Thanks in advance!

Kind Regards,

Akshay

Hi,

glad the video helped.

Can you give us a screenshot from your current app?

How are the other fields connected to SP?

If your app is created from this list there would be cards for each column of the canvas.

Usually for boolean fields a toggle button would be entered.

You just need to add a card for this field and add the checkbox in the card.

Best regards
