Check Multiple Dropdowns Selected Values and Define 'Yes' or 'No'

Hi All,

I am building an app based on a SharePoint list. I have a requirement that if any of the dropdowns not have any value selected (-) then a columns ApprovalCheck value should be 'Yes' else the value should be 'No'.

Below the code i have written in ApprovalCheck so that, if any of the field is blank then the ApprovalCheck field should have 'Yes' added.

If(
BELCustGrpDD.Selected.Value <> "1000 INR" Or // Check if the selected value is not '1000 INR'
BELDiscGrpDD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELDisGrpFGFDD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELDiscGrpLCDD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELSALPERDD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPrice1DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPrice2DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPrice3DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPrice4DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPrice5DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPriceSO1DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPriceSO2DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPriceSO3DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPriceSO4DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
BELPriceSO5DD.Selected.Value <> "-" Or // Check if the value is not blank //
Not("Exempt" in BELVATDD.Selected.Value) // Check if the field is not having 'Exempt' //
"Yes",
"No"
 )

However it is not working as expected. I tried several combinations but not getting the expected results.

Can anyone please help that where the code is wrong.

Many Thanks in advance.!!!

Kind Regards,

Akshay

Hi @v-qiaqi-msft,

Got the solution by sequencing the code like below Test.

If(!("Akshay" in CB1.Selected.Value) Or !("Akshay" in DD1_1.Selected.Value) Or DD2_1.Selected.Value<>"-" Or DD3_1.Selected.Value<>"-","Yes","No")

Now conditions working exactly as expected.

Akshay

Hi,

You wrote: “...if any of the dropdowns not have any value selected (-)...” that means you have to use AND instead of OR.

Hi @AkshayManke,

Could you please tell me that if you have a choice like "-" in your dropdown list?

If you just want to identify whether the Dropdown.Selected.Value is blank or not, I think you could use the IsBlank() and IsEmpty() function.

Please try to modify your formula as below:

If(
BELCustGrpDD.Selected.Value <> "1000 INR" Or
(IsBlank(BELDiscGrpDD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELDiscGrpDD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELDisGrpFGFDD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELDisGrpFGFDD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELDiscGrpLCDD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELDiscGrpLCDD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELSALPERDD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELSALPERDD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPrice1DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPrice1DD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPrice2DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPrice2DD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPrice3DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPrice3DD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPrice4DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPrice4DD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPrice5DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPrice5DD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPriceSO1DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPriceSO1DD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPriceSO2DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPriceSO2DD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPriceSO3DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPriceSO3DD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPriceSO4DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPriceSO4DD.Selected.Value)) Or
(IsBlank(BELPriceSO5DD.Selected.Value) Or IsEmpty(BELPriceSO5DD.Selected.Value)) Or
Not("Exempt" in BELVATDD.Selected.Value)
"Yes",
"No"
 )

The key is that you should use the IsBlank() Or IsEmpty() to identify at the same time.

Note that all the conditions I use the IsBlank() Or IsEmpty() to identify do achieve your need that if any of the field is blank then the ApprovalCheck field should have 'Yes' added. However, the first and the last condition, please re-consider that if you should use the Or operator. If all the operator is Or, which means that once one of these conditions is meet, the ApprovalCheck field should have 'Yes' added.

Hope it could help.

Hello @v-qiaqi-msft, Many Thanks for the help.

Below my answers.

Q1. Could you please tell me that if you have a choice like "-" in your dropdown list?

Ans. I just have added "-" so that we can consider that as blank value.

Q2.  If all the operator is Or, which means that once one of these conditions is meet, the ApprovalCheck field should have 'Yes' added.

Ans. Yes, i just want the same condition. If any of this condition is true then it ApprovalCheck should have 'Yes' Added.

I got your point to use IsBlank() or IsEmpty(), but in my case i have used '-' to define if there is no value is entered. Can you please help me how to achieve this?

Many Thanks again!!

Akshay

Hi @lybhy, Thanks for replying back, but using And i am not getting the expected result. And is checking each value and if all the values are not blank then only it is adding 'Yes' in the ApprovalCheck field, which is not true. Instead i need that any of the field is having other than '-' then the ApprovalCheck should have 'Yes'.

Thanks,

Akshay

Hi @AkshayManke,

Do you mean that you consider the "-" as a blank value?

So follow your mind, if any one of the drop down selected value is "-", ApprovalCheck should have 'Yes' Added, which is exact opposite of your formula.

If the first condition

BELCustGrpDD.Selected.Value <> "1000 INR"

or the last condition

Not("Exempt" in BELVATDD.Selected.Value)

is met, no matter whether there is "-" value or not, the formula will return "Yes" always. Is that you want?

The formula you provided is that if any one of these conditions is true, it will return "Yes" always, if all the conditions are false at the same time, it will return "No".

Please clarify your need more detailed.

Qi

Hi @v-qiaqi-msft,

My answers as below.

Q1. Do you mean that you consider the "-" as a blank value? Yes

Q2. So follow your mind, if any one of the drop down selected value is "-", ApprovalCheck should have 'Yes' Added, which is exact opposite of your formula. Yes that is what i needed. If the "-" is not, then ApprovalCheck should have 'Yes' and if there is "-" then ApprovalCheck should have 'No'.

Q3. If the first condition or the last condition is met, no matter whether there is "-" value or not, the formula will return "Yes" always. Is that you want? I want that any of the condition specified is met then ApprovalCheck should have 'Yes'.

The formula you provided is that if any one of these conditions is true, it will return "Yes" always, if all the conditions are false at the same time, it will return "No". Yes this exactly i was expecting.

To clear the things more in detail, i have created a spreadsheet for conditions (Attached with this thread) out from which any (even one) condition is met then the ApprovalCheck should have 'Yes' and if all (even one) condition is not met then ApprovalCheck should have 'No'.

Please let me know if you need any further information and i will be happy to provide.

Many Thanks again.!!

Regards,

Akshay

Hi @AkshayManke,

Okay, I understand what you want to achieve.

  1. You want the If statement to return true if there is any one of the condition is met.
  2. You want the If statement to return false if there is any one of the condition is not met.

If you want any of the condition specified to be met then ApprovalCheck should have 'Yes' and all (even one)condition is not met then ApprovalCheck should have 'No', I could tell you that there is no way to achieve this using the logic statement.

The Or operator means that once one of the condition is met, then it returns true, only if all the conditions are not met at the same time, it returns false.

The And operator means that only all the conditions is met, it returns true, and if only one of the conditions is met, it returns false always.

More details, please check here for reference.

Hope it could help.

Qi
