Check box not updating Microsoft list

Hello,

New to Power Apps, so please bear with me.

I have a Microsoft / Sharepoint list for data.

My formula for the checkbox is not working correctly.

Do you have an idea on what I need to do to fix this?

The Checkbox is inside a gallery.

Currently:

OnCheck = Patch('ThankYouCardList', ThisItem, {Card_Completed:If(Self.Value,"Yes","No")})

Default = ThisItem.ckbox_Yes_No_CardCompleted

OnSelect = Select(Parent)

OnUnCheck = false

Text = If(Self.Value,"Card Completed","Check box when Card is completed")

To recap from previous question.

This is data is in Microsoft List

The Checkbox will not update the data in the list.

Now when the app is run by the next person or reopened by the same person, the Checkbox should be blank( if new person using app) also if a returning person using the proper ID can look at their data showing that the checkbox's that were checked previously are still checked.

Now one ID may have multiple thank you cards to create, but do not have to be completed all at once.  That is why I would like the option to indicate completed check marks.

Visual Example:

Your right we are closer.

Your text property, on my mock up I used just "Completed" no if statement. If you want the test to display "Checkbox when card completed" you would use just that with no if statement.  The rest isn't needed.

As far as what your using as an id field from your sharepoint list.  Did you create this index?  Usually SharePoint gives you an ID field when you create a list. There are system fields like created, and created by that are automatic. Your referencing a Student_ID, instead of the list item ID. Each SharePoint list creates this unique reference index and think of it as a mandatory primary key.   Have you tried using just SharePoint list name, ID = ThisItem.ID ?  I think this might be where the problem lies.

It kinda works but not totally.

When I select the button "Submit when Completed"

It does update the first record on the Microsoft List, but not the record that is currently selected from the filtered gallery and checkbox.

I wonder, are you wanting multiple records to update at the same time? Or just that single record.  I was under the impression it was that single record, so I was giving you information to do that.

If it is that single record, then lets try this.

Add a label to the gallery, and set its property to ThisItem.ID  and then on the oncheck property of the checkbox we are going to add a second variable.  put a ; between

Set(varCompleted, "Yes");
Value(Set(varID, ThisItem.ID));

and on the Uncheck property if you are capturing unchecking do the same:

Set(varCompleted, "No");
Value(Set(varID, ThisItem.ID));

Then modify the patch lookup and pass the varID  instead... something like:   ListName, ID = varID

Does this patch the correct record?  If it does, remember to clear your variable by Set(varID, "") after patching.

// the datasource where you see "testing" change to your datasource,
//Change the field name out with your field name where the "Completed" is. But do not change out varCompleted.

Patch(YOUR DATA SOURCE,
LookUp(YOUR DATA SOURCE, ID = varID),
{Completed: {Value:varCompleted}
}
);
//to clear the variable for the next use
Set(varCompleted, "");

//to refresh your gallery after patching to show the changes
Refresh(YOUR DATA SOURCE);
Set(varID, 0);

Most everything is working except for using the "LookUp" command.  It does find the first file in the Microsoft list and updates only the first record.  It is very slow to do the update.

So now what can I use instead of the LookUp command to it can update the selected checkbox's?  (NOT all of the boxes, just the ones that are filtered and selected)

I can say it could be multiple records but not always.

So image "Jeffrey" has 3 thank you cards to complete.  However Jeffrey does chose only 2 of the three in the gallery to via checkbox.  Then if Jeffrey logs back in he can see the 2 boxs already checked and then update the 3rd with another checkbox.  All along updating the Microsoft list after clicking on the "submit" button.

Now with that said "Judy" may only have 1 thank you card to create so thus only 1 check box.  So the LookUp function worked great for that.

It also seems like I have to do a refresh on screen 1, where the initial ID is entered before the "patch" is actually updated.

After I refresh it can still take upto 15 seconds to update.  I feel this is very slow since there's less than 100 records in this sample.

Melisa,

That worked for me !

Thank you so much for staying with me through this process.

I really have appreciated your assistance.

by using the lookup it still only updates the first record if only.  However if there are say 4 records to update from check box's, then update the Microsoft list.

How would that change in the Patch commands ?

You would make a collection out of the gallery items, so that the values on change are captured.

After you have the collection you would do a forAll in your patch statement.  In this video from Shane Young it goes over the basics.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MclJ_O9HvJQ
