Clearing a Gallery after a reset

Hi All,

With some help I no have a searchbox that works fine and returns the search value's of 2 columns.

The problem is in the reset part with a resetbutton.

It clears the input in the searchbox and in the result Gallery. But after the reset all value's of the columns are vissible in this gallery.

I try to clean this gallery so that after the reset it is empty.

I use the following formulas:

- Screen/OnVisible=ClearCollect(LegeDataset;{Emptycolumn: ""})

- ResetButton: (name Zoekstrook)/OnSelect=Reset(Zoekstrook) && Reset(ZoekenGallery)ClearCollect(LegeDataset; Filter(TblSAK; false))

- Gallery (name ZoekenGallery)/Items=Distinct(Search(TblSAK;Zoekstrook.Text;"Storing";"Alternatieven");Storing &","& Alternatieven)

This is the message on Reset button: ‘Operator expected’

Remark: in my Area I have to use "; " instead of ","

Can someone help me with this and/or give me another way of clearing the gallery after reset

Thanks!

Hi @FZ80 ,

What you have to realise is that the default result of having no search criteria is showing all records - there is nothing wrong with the code or the result. So if you want no records until you search

If(
   Len(Zoekstrook.Text) > 0,
   GroupBy(
      Search(
         TblSAK;
         Zoekstrook.Text;
         "Storing";
         "Alternatieven"
      );
      "Storing";
      "Alternatieven";
      "Data"
   )
)

Hi @FZ80 ,

Firstly, you need this in structure

Reset(Zoekstrook);;
Reset(ZoekenGallery);;
ClearCollect(
   LegeDataset;
   Filter(
      TblSAK;
      false)
   )
)

but I was also wondering what you are trying to do with the collection with the false parameter.

Hi Warren,

This is ment to realise an empty dataset realizing an empty gallery.

But to be honest, this not my idea but that of ChatGPT. Because Iám new to power apps I first try to solve a problem using chatGPT. Sometimes it works, sometimes it confuses and creates something I get confused in.

The only thing I want to realise as the search function works fine, is after a combined reset for the searchfield as well as the gallery is that it emptys both.

Hi @FZ80 ,

ChatGPT in my experience with Power Apps is a reasonable reference tool to check broad structures and concepts, when used by someone who is only doing that, but it will rarely teach you Power Apps code and often (as in your case) will confuse you more as you do not know which parts are incorrect. I addressed the Reset button as that was the error. I am not exactly sure what you are trying to do with the gallery, but this may be close

GroupBy(
   Search(
      TblSAK;
      Zoekstrook.Text;
      "Storing";
      "Alternatieven"
   );
   "Storing";
   "Alternatieven";
   "Data"
)

Also your Collection is probably this

Reset(Zoekstrook);;
Reset(ZoekenGallery);;
ClearCollect(
   LegeDataset;
   TblSAK
)

but why are you collecting when you are not using it and your gallery filters the dataset directly ?

Hi Warren,

Thanks for helping me. I copied the code you gave me and it works fine. The only thing is the reset.

It clears the searchfield and there is also some sort of reset in the gallery. The only thing is that after the reset this gallery than shows all the values /ceels of the column named 'storing'.

I thought, maybe this is because I miss someting / with respect to 'Data' and/or LegeDataset.

The only this with 'LegeDataset' I did so far is this code:  Screen/OnVisible=ClearCollect(LegeDataset;{Emptycolumn: ""}).

On your question: ''why are you collecting when you are not using it and your gallery filters the dataset directly ?"- it is this: I want to help people searching that use the app by a special search page ( The codes you gave me are for that). This should help them if the use other words than I give them. So for example: I offer them an instruction page (somewhere else in the app) that they can find under the name 'PC'. But if the don't search on 'PC' because that is not the word the commonly use, the will not find it. Therfore the seperate searchpage. On that I write alternative words for 'PC', eg 'Computer' or 'Personal Computer'. Those words I write in the column 'Alternatieven', in the same Row as where 'PC' can be found ( but than in the column 'Storing'.

The returned value's in the code you gave me now returns this. After that, the should be directed to the original gallery to the gallery where 'PC' is. I hope I made this not too complicated to explain 🙂

@FZ80 ,

OK - I will disregard that as it is not part of your posted issue.

I am not sure however what your current issue is as you are resetting the Text control and therefore disabling the Search on your gallery (so it will simply display all the records, which is exactly what you are telling it to do).

Sorry Warren, It is rather difficult to make myself clear in another language.

NOT an issue with your help is: when entering text in the searchfield I get the right text out of the 2 colums in which the search formula looks.

What is an issue is the 'Reset':

- OK is: it deletes the searchtext in the searchfield

- Ok is: in teh Gallery where the search results are shown it deletes the results

- Not OK is: after deleting the searchresults in the Gallery, all values (from a to z) are visible. They have nothing to do with the former search but are just all the values that are in the column 'Storing'.  After the reset I try to get an empty Gallery ( no values at all) until someone starts typing a new search in the searchfield.

Sorry for not being clear enough.
