Column saving

HI!

I gotta problem, Im wondering if I have one column in powerapps and sharepoint which is a choice, can I save it's value to another one which is a text format?

Hi Alban,

I don't see a problem with what you're suggesting - I'd say you just get the value from the one column and save it back to another?  Do you have more details on your specific example I can help you with?

If you're using an Edit Form and you have both columns in the same source (the choice column and the text column), then unlock the text column input control and set its Default property to the DropdownControl.Selected.value of the choice column's dropdown control.

There's my problem, mostly it says that there caanot be a record value where it suppouse to be a record one.

Hi there,

What is the dropdown column? 

If it's a simple list of options ["yes", "no", "maybe"] represented by a dropdown control, then DropDown.Selected.Value should work.  If it's something else, (like a people picker) you may need to navigate the control slightly differently.

What the error is telling you is that the Value you've selected is actually a Row of data, not a single field - you need to drop down a level to get the field.

This worked for me "DataCardValue1.Selected.Vendor"
Where first is the place I get data from, and Vendor is the name of a whole card field. 
So it works but I have no idea why 😛

Basically, if the dropdown Items property points at a Table, (as opposed to an Array of options) then beneath that you woud be able to select which column of the table to display in the dropdown options eg: Value = Vendor. 

This would then provide a dropdown of all the values in the Vendor column for that Table.

When a selection is made, the Selected.Value of the selection is the entire row of data that the field you selected belongs to. 

Specifying a specific column will return the data for that field in the selection - hence Selected.Vendor returns the value for the vendor column in the row that was selected.

Could you please share a bit more about your app's configuration?

Do you want to display value from the Drop down control within a TextInput control?

I don't agree with @RusselThomas's thought almost. I assume that the Items property of the Drop down control is set to a Table (Just like an Array with many options) as below:

Table(
{Id:1,ProductName:"Product1",Vendor:"Apple"},
{Id:2,ProductName:"Product2",Vendor:"Amazon"}
)

Then you could specify which column (of above table) as the display value within the Drop down control via specifying value within Value property as below:

The DataCardValue1.Selected.Value formula would retrieve the display value that you selected from the Drop down control. e.g. You select Apple from the Drop down control, the DataCardValue1.Selected.Value formula would retrieve the following data:

Apple

The DataCardValue1.Selected formula would retrieve the entire row (from the above table) where your selectd value (from the Drop down control) belongs to. e.g. You select Amazon from the Drop down control, the DataCardValue1.Selected formula would retrieve the following data (one record):

{Id:2,ProductName:"Product2",Vendor:"Amazon"}

Please check if the field (or column) that you displayed within the Drop down control is a Text column or a Record column (e.g. Person or Group type column in SP list, Choice type column in SP list.etc)

Good point Xida, I just assumed Value to be a record, are you saying it's more likely the currently selected text value as opposed to the whole record then?
