Combo box Not Displaying Error Message on change of UPDATE property

I am trying to show error message on form submit. I am using combo box.
When I am not updating the combo box, error message is displayed but when I change as it is lookup so error message is not displayed.

Before :

After :
Changing the UPDATE formula and error message is not visible

nrvrvl_1-1613729697706.png

Error Message "TEXT"  :
If(IsBlank(Parent.Error),"","Enter Country");

I have also tried changing error message text to this:

If(IsBlank(DataCardValue47.Selected.Result),"Enter Country","")  <= But this will always display "Enter Country Message" unless I select Country

If I don't select country then empty value is being created in Sharepoint list. And If I select everything is fine.

I am not sure why Parent.Error is not working.

Help!

I found a solution if someone is facing same issue.

Please change the "UPDATE" property of combobox to this.

If(
!IsBlank(DataCardValue47.Selected),
(
{
'@odata.type': "Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedReference",
Id: LookUp(Configuration, Title = DataCardValue47.Selected.Result, ID),
Value: DataCardValue47.Selected.Result
}

)
)

Thank you @WarrenBelz! one of your answer gave me an idea to solve this.

Hi @nrvrvl ,

You can Use Like Below.

If(IsBlank(ComboBox7.Selected.Title) || IsEmpty(ComboBox7.Selected.Title),true,false)

Hi @nrvrvl ,

The reason why you get blank values written to your SharePoint list is because the Lookup() function actually returns a blank value if no match can be found. This means that if you do not select a country in your drop-down you will always get a blank value returned and since blank values are indeed a valid value in PowerApps, you also do not get an error in the Parent.Error object.

If you instead use the below expression, using the Filter() function which returns empty if no match is found, then the field will throw an error unless you select a country.

The First() function is there simply to select the first record, since the Filter() function always returns a Table, whereas the Lookup() returns a single record directly.

First(Filter(Configuration,Title=DataCardValue47.Selected.Result)).ID

Regarding the actual error label, you should be able to use your first suggestion.

If(IsBlank(Parent.Error),"","Enter Country");

Hi @fugixi ,

I have tried what you have mentioned above but the error message is still not visible.

This is what I have done on UPDATE property of combobox.

Oh, that is right. Your current Update expression will always return a valid object, so that also has to be wrapped in an If() function.

Just replace the Id and Value properties in the below expression, with the already existing Id and Value properties in your current Update property.

If(
    IsBlank(Parent.Error),
    {
        Id: "",
        Value: DataCardValue3.Selected
    }
)

Hi @fugixi ,

Thank you for the fast reply. After your suggestion the error message is visible even after I am selecting a country.

please take a look

Error Label Text :
If(IsBlank(Parent.Error),"","Enter Country");

Hmm, I think I may have jumped in a bit fast into answering your question.

What is the reason you can't just use the DataCardValue47.Selected in your Update property? You shouldn't have to specify the record yourself.

Try with the above and see if your solution is complete with that.

Hi @fugixi , I am doing it because it is lookup column. If I don't specify the ID and Value then it will not save the item to the sp list.

Allright, but you actually do not have to create the record object yourself, because if you use the DataCardValue47.Selected you should get the entire object already, like below.

Try and see if it works for your use case.

Hi @fugixi ,

See below Image. As it has no ID after selection of the country it will save blank value to the SP list.

Update property of combobox.
