Conditional Patching into SharePoint List.

Hi,
I am developing a Leave Application for a client, i am using Single Form Control in which employee creates a record by choosing the Leave Type from the DropDown and the form fields are shown according to that leavetype dropdown Selection, but when I Submit the form, it submits all the form data.

I want to patch those which are assoicated with that LeaveType Selected, How can I achieve conditional Patching in SP List, Update and Delete them accordingly.

I am stuck in this any help?

Hi @MH3 

The key is the Update property of the cards containing the controls that require input.  You would copy this formula into the Update property of the cards that require input for a particular selection

If(DropdownLeavetype.Selected = "Time Off", DataCardValue1.Text)

If you wanted to submit the value in the control for two types of Leave then 

If(DropdownLeavetype.Selected = "Time Off"||"Annual Leave", DataCardValue2.Text)

If you have already made the visibility of the card dependent on the dropdown control, then you can use the name of the datacard and its Visibility property to create the conditional Update

If(enter_your_reasonDataCard.Visible,DataCardValue14.Text)

Do I have to add this code, in all the data cards whom ever belong to these Leave types? 

and can I update them and delete accordingly?

The Update property of the card will allow data in the control inside of it to be modified unless it is restricted as I suggested. The SubmitForm() function will submit data from each card regardless of whether it is visible or hidden and if there are defaults in the controls within the card, then those defaults will be submitted if it is hidden unless you use a condition on the Update property of the card. 

My suggestion is to control the Visible property of the cards with based on the dropdown's selected value so that only those cards appropriate to the Leave type will be visible. To ensure that nothing if submitted from that card if it is hidden, use the second formula in the Update property to ensure that nothing is submitted from a hidden card.  Once the control inside the card is exposed, it can be changed or deleted.

You are already half way there.  If you modify the Update property of the StartDate_DataCard1 to 

If(StartDate_DataCard1.Visible, nameofdatepickerinthiscard.SelectedDate)

 Then only if the StartDate_DataCard1 is visible, will the value in the datapicker (whatever its name is) will be submitted.  Since the Update property already contains the control inside the card, you just need to wrap it with If(nameofcard.Visible, ...) to ensure that data from the control is submitted only if the card is visible. This will apply to making changes or deleting the value in the control.

You can use that approach. Or remove the submit form on your save / submit button. And utilize a Switch() function for your dropdown and for each switch (dropdown) you use a patch and patch the fields you want into SharePoint. This can give you a little more control but I also like the hidden fields don’t update idea too.

Thanks, your approach is working fine!!.

But I have little problem, I have Requestor Column, Leave Status Column. I want to enter the Pending Status as the default when ever a new request is created and want to drop the user email who is creating the request in the Requestor column.

how can I achieve this?
