Connecting PowerApp with Excel Sheet Hosted within OneDrive

Hi Everyone,

I have built a log/app with cascading drop downs where-in the information is being pulled in from multiple SQL tables, to now test the writing ability of the app. I have set-up an excel sheet to capture my entries which is being hosted within One-drive. I set the sheet up with just fields that correspond to fields in the form.

When I go into submit my log entry image.png thats the error I receive.

I double checked all the fields and there is only 1 required field which is auto-populated and not empty, hence I am stuck, not sure exactly that the issue is, can you please help me out here.

additional info :

  • The field and the excel sheet is setup as table
  • I mapped the fields on the app with the fields on the excel sheet they equal each other
  • I am not certain on the naming convention but for now I have it setup to match the datacard name of each field, i dont know if that could impact the writing ability of the application

The objective is to simply use the application to write information into an excel sheet for tracking purposes.

Please let me know if you require any information above and beyond, seems like a very rudimentary problem to have.

When writing to Excel, and many other data sources, you may need to invoke the the Defaults() function.

Patch(ExcelDestinationName, Defaults(ExcelDestinationName), {column1: value1, column2: value2})

Hi,

@GarethPrisk

Thank you for your response.

I am a new powerapps user so please pardon my ignorance here. Where do I input the formula and how ?

image.png <-- Is that where Invoke the default function? I understand that its based

This is how my properties look like :

Ahh, you're using a Form.

What is Table2?

To confirm, you have two connections (one to SQL, one to Excel)?

Then you are trying to populate data in Excel (presumably, using a Form)?

What I was describing was if you were using a Patch function.

 @GarethPrisk

Yes Sir!

Apologies for the confusion, I could not provide you the right information.

Yes Two Connections, SQL is to pull data from SQL tables to have a cascading drop downs to auto-populate the form. Then I am trying to populate the data in excel, using the said form.

Any idea on how to make it work ?

How many fields are on your Form?

Have you customized those fields? Assuming so, since you are setting the values, we may need to explore those.

The alternative would be to formulate a Patch function with the same data you're using in the form, to Patch the Excel data source.

There are a total of 26 Fields in my form, Considering the form was pretty built from Scratch, I would assume that all fields are custom.

I have no knowledge of how to take it forward from there, simply want the log entries to be recorded and contained within Excel. How do you suggest we go about patching the fields? How does one start doing so?

Thank you so much for your help?

Insert a button on the screen where your form is.
Then select the button, on the Onselect of the Button put that formula: SubmitForm(TheNameofYourForm)

Hi Thanks for your response :

This has been there and that is what I have been trying to do but still get the same error. The excel file where I am trying to write the information that data source is simply named 'Table2' does it need to have the same name? do you think naming convention would make a difference.

I realized that all the datacardvalue as shown in the form are dropdown. This means that you would not type into the form but rather pick the word/item/text from the dropdown. If they are all dropdown, have you set up items for all the 26 datacardvalue/ Dropdown.
If they are not supposed to be dropdown then you need to insert a new form.

If you like this post, give a thumbs up. Where it solved your issue, Mark as a solution
