Create a Collection from a ComboBox

I'm creating a collection from a number of input controls, one being a combobox with multiple selections allowed. The collection created are details about a single Event. I need to pull this info into a collection, and then patch it to a Sharepoint list later on.

So I need to find a way to store the selected items from the combobox as a table.

EventTitle is entered via a text input control EventTitleInput
EventRoom is entered via a multichoice combobox RoomPicker (the event can take place in multiple rooms)
Department is entered via a dropdown control DepartmentPicker

My Items for my RoomPicker combobox come from my Sharepoint list. The formula is: Choices('SharepointEventsList'.'EventRoom'). Let's say therefore that my possible selections for the combobox are:
Room1
Room2
Room3 (I'm unsure if that info is needed or not, but I'm trying to be more inclusive).

Right now my Collect formula is:
Collect(
colThisEvent,
{
EventTitle: EventTitleInput.Text,
EventRoom: ??????,
Department: DepartmentPicker.SelectedText
}
)

I tried the solution posted here but it didn't help and I wasn't able to get it to work.

Hi @tinoac123 ,

Try

Collect(
   colThisEvent,
   {
      EventTitle: EventTitleInput.Text,
      EventRoom:
      Concat(
         YourComboBoxName.SelectedItems, Value & ", "
      ),
      Department: DepartmentPicker.SelectedText
   }
)

Hi@tinoac123,

Based on the issue that you mentioned, do you want to collect selections from your RoomPicker?

And here is the point, do you want to collect one entry for each selected room option, or create one entry for all selected room options.

Considering that you want to store the selected items from the Combobox as a table. On this premise, I use the formula you provided and assume that you want to create one entry for all selected items in RoomPicker.

I have a test on my side, please take a try as below:

Add a Button and set the OnSelect property as:

Collect(
colThisEvent,
{
EventTitle: EventTitleInput.Text,
EventRoom: RoomPicker.SelectedItems,
Department: DepartmentPicker.SelectedText
}
)

After that, you can see your colThisEvent as below.

What’s more,  since the RoomPicker is multiple choices allowed, [RoomPicker.SelectedItems] has already been a table format.

Note: There are two Choice columns in my SP list, one for RoomPicker and another for DepartmentPicker.

I realized my problem was deeper than just trying to store the value as a table. In a normal scenario, @v-qiaqi-msft's solution would work, and is the normal way.

However, as I mentioned, I am looking to store this in a collection with the intention of sending it as new items to a Sharepoint list.

I explained my original post differently than what I am ACTUALLY doing, for the sake of zoning in on my specific issue. I am actually collecting multiple items (events) in my collection, and I wanted to patch them in bulk to my Shaepoint list. However, I haven't found a good way to to BULK PATCH items in a collection.

SO, I was instead just using another COLLECT to create all of the items in my Events Collection to my Sharepoint Events list.
e.g.

Collect(
'SharepointEventsList',
colTheseEvents)

AND, in order to do that COLLECT to create the items on Sharepoint from the Events collection, I needed to name the column names in my collection the EXACT same as they appear in the Sharepoint list. When the columns were the exact same, the Collect sends the data from the matching-named collection column value to the matching-named Sharepoint column value for that event/item.  When I named the column in my collection for the non-multi-choice columns in Sharepoint list, reflecting the exact column name in the Sharepoint list, it worked like a charm. However, when I named the column in my collection for the Event RoomComboBox.selecteditems exactly reflecting the multi-select column name in the Sharepoint list, and put in the same formula that @v-qiaqi-msft suggested to store as a table, it errored out. When I changed one character in that column name, it didn't error out.

For more context, on my other Collect function that I was using to send the collection items to the sharepoint list (see above), it also had an error on it: "Incompatible Type. The 'EventRoom' column in the data source you're updating expects a 'Table' type and you're using a 'Text' type."

THUS, I think my only solution will be to find a way to do a bulk PATCH. ugh.

Maybe a flow with Power Automate can do the trick:
