I am struggling with the following issue and i need help or advise if possible please?
I’ve currently created the normal 3 x SharePoint Integration forms (New, Edit and View)
And I’ve used Power Apps to redesign the forms, which all are working perfectly. However, I have been asked to create if it possible to have a copy facility function on the form where the user can just copy the date and submit as a new item?
Sorry in advance if this question was asked or has been reviewed previously.
Also, if possible, could the copy be created ie x5 times in one go?
What’s the best way to do this? Using SharePoint Integration forms or Power Apps Edit Form please? If you have advise or point me in the right direction would be much appreciated.
Thanking you all in advance
To start, there is no different with what you are referring to as SharePoint Integration forms or Power Apps Edit Forms - An EditForm is an edit form!
In your case, are you trying to copy everything from one record to another, or you mention just the date?
Can you expand more on your need for the creating 5 times part of your post?
Do you want to have the user edit the form before submitting? Or click a button to create a new item (or 5) with today() as the date?
For the former, I have a method posted by @RandyHayes of "blanking out" the ID in the form:
"What is the Item property of your form?
If it is based on a variable (set from your Gallery), then you can easily create a new record from the form even with a prior record in it.
To do so, just blank out the Primary Key of the Item record.
So, for example, if the Item property is based on a glbCurrentRecord variable, then this formula at some place that you choose, will turn it into a new record: Set(glbCurrentRecord, Patch(glbCurrentRecord, {ID: Blank()}))
This assumes your primary key is ID.
At that point, when the form is submitted, it will create a new record with all the information from the other record."
Hi RandyHayes,
Thanks you for answering my question,
I would like to copy everything from one record to another as a new record, Sorry its a typo error, it should have read data. I have tried build the copy form, but just not able to do this.
i would like to copy numerous time with one click of a button ie how many copies do you want to create?
is there a formula that can do this please?
So, for your form you will just need to blank out the ID column.
I would first follow the link to the post that @jaeiow mentioned. In that post I detailed how to go about the copy part.
As for the create X number of times...that is something that a Form alone will not do.
To make that happen, you will need to create the additional records yourself after the form submits.
So (after following the post mentioned above), in your OnSuccess action of the form, you will be putting some additional actions into that formula.
Example:
Let's just say that you have a text input control (you can have any type of control, but we'll keep it simple with a textinput for the moment) that would allow the user to enter the amount of copies to make, then the OnSuccess formula would have the following in it:
Set(glbCurrentRecord, Self.LastSubmit);
Patch(yourDataSource,
ForAll(
Sequence(Value(yourXNumberOfTimesInput.Text))-1,
Patch(glbCurrentRecord, {ID: Blank()})
)
)
This will then create x number of additional records. You will notice it is actually X - 1, because the SubmitForm would have already created one record.
thank you for responding back,
I've managed to get the coping the item part perfect. and it looks okay and does what i need it to do.
i'll put it for testing and ill see how it preforms with large amount of inputs from requesters.
You help is very much appreciated. thank you
Hi RandyHayes,
I've added a Text Input control and named it CopiesInput, followed your advise, however i ended up with an error! See below the formula i added in to the form1 On success section.
Set(glbCurrentRecord, Self.LastSubmit); Patch('Edit Form', ForAll(Sequence(Value(CopiesInput.Text))-1, Patch(glbCurrentRecord, {ID: Blank()})))
Should the TextInput control be in the form itself or its default setting need something?
Sorry, I'm confused,
Hello RandyHayes,
Thank you for your advise and feedback, much appreciated.
Not sure if you read my last response to you, I’m still not sure what where I’ve gone wrong with the formula you done for me regarding creating multiple copies when creating copy of an item and save them as new item or items.
Any feedback on the formula I put together and advise where it went wrong is much appreciated
Set(glbCurrentRecord, Self.LastSubmit); Patch('Edit Form', ForAll(Sequence(Value(CopiesInput.Text))-1, Patch(glbCurrentRecord, {ID: Blank()})))
Thanks in advance
