D365 CE 2020 Release Wave 1 breaking app?

I have a canvas App in daily use by 100+ users for several months. It uses a CDS connector to interact with D365 CE.

Our D365 team have just started testing against D365 CE Release Wave 1 (which I understand will be pushed onto us on 9th May) this appears to break the App on Mobile while it continues to run fine in Studio and Web Player.

The issue appears to be a patch statement to an entity 'Appointment Movements'. There are multiple places in the App where we Patch to this entity, most work but a few fail consistently on Mobile only:

Observed behaviour: The Patch does not succeed on Mobile (but works fine on Web working with the exact same record, the same values to be patched and same version of our App).

No error is reported in the Mobile App - the Patch simply fails and then several on screen controls change Fill colour (even where the fill colour is a static value, not a formula).

As this issue is only affecting the Mobile (Android) App I decided to check the details of recent updates - the Android App reports its version as 3.20033.27 - however if I go to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/business-applications-release-notes/powerplatform/released-versions... to check what has been modified (not that useful information is regularly provided, usually we just get 'nothing publicly disclosed') or when this version was released, it is not even listed (last listing is for Feb 24, 3.20024).

We have raised a ticket to MS support but posting to the community as a 'heads up' for others and any suggestions.

Plea to MS staff:

1. Now is not the time to be pushing out updates that cannot be deferred and that can break existing Apps and functionality. 

2. For those of us with production systems, we need properly maintained documentation giving us some guidance on when things are changed and what impacts those changes may have.

3. We need a mechanism to choose the version of the App player (on Mobile and Web) to help diagnose bugs and to target our Apps onto versions known not to cause issues.

4. We need App Insights (or 'internal' tools) to support error tracking in PowerApps. I'm new to App Insights but so far don't see any built in error logging for PowerApps and as some issues (like this one) don't result in an error being raised in the Player there is no way to manually add a trace. When errors occur in the Players (web or mobile) that cannot be reproduced in Studio the only option is a time consuming process of 'tweak-publish-open-test' to try to deduce the cause of errors.

Thanks for your feedback. Based on the issue that you mentioned, I have no better solution for your scenario.

 

According to the issue that you mentioned, I think this issue is related to Power Mobile App itself. Currently, there is no tool or function supported to track the error log occurred within canvas app.

 

If the Product Team has given a fixed solution for your scenario, please feel free to share here. So anyone in this forum who suffer from such issue could refer to this fixed solution.

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.
