Date Field in Canvas App will not show Correct Value on Edit Screen

New user here, be gentle 🙂

I'm collecting data in an external Form, which I pass to a Sharepoint List via Power Automate.

I have a field called Birthdate which is populating my list with M/D/YYYY values.

In PowerApps, I have a gallery on one side of the canvas, and an Edit Screen on the other.  Although I can get the correct Birthdate to show in the gallery, the Edit Screen will only show the default date.

What can I do to bring in the Birthdate value from the Selected Item?

Hi @melissahillGS ,

Very strange try these two:-

  1. In the "Default" of the control, instead of Parent.Default, put ThisItem.DateBirth (you should not have to do this normally).
  2. Getting desperate, unlock the card and either insert a label or use the existing one there and change the Text to
    Text(DateBirth,"dd/mm/yyyy").
    You may then get an error and it will come back (in Australia's case)
    Text(ThisItem.DateBirth,"[$-en-AU] dd/mm/yyyy") and saying the language is not supported. Just change this to
    Text(ThisItem.DateBirth,"[$-en-US] dd/mm/yyyy")

What I am trying to do in 2. is seeing what value is actually in the card and a label will display this.

@melissahillGS

Is your flow filling out your DateBirth field in SP? If so, what format is it set to do this and could you share the function you are using. It's possible the error is coming from there.

You could test this by inserting  a label somewhere in your app and put this in the Text property:

DataCardValue1.[ use intellisense to guide you here, could be Value or SelectedDate or blank]

Hi @Anonymous

I had that thought, but why then is the date correctly displayed in the gallery?

@WarrenBelz

Very interesting.  I can't seen to get that field to display anywhere in the Edit Screen.

I tried both of your solutions and neither would display anything at all.  Screenshot here.

@WarrenBelz

It's possible Flow is creating a Date + Time format and sending that to SP as a Date Only column and then ... possibly ... the PowerApps DatePicker is unsure how to handle the data type.

Yes, weird that the correct date can be pulled into the gallery but maybe because these are Text labels (ie the most basic of data types) it can handle the data type better? Just a guess really

@WarrenBelz  @Anonymous  well at least it's an interesting problem, I guess.

I'm attaching screenshots here of every point the data travels.

Hi @melissahillGS ,

My next question was sort of along the lines of what @Anonymous has posted, but with a different tack,

Forget about the Flow for the moment -

  1. Can you see the field in SharePoint and edit it? If so, type a different value in and make sure it saves and is a date.
    Type something that cannot be a US date (31/1/2020).
  2. Is your field a date (only) field

Hi @melissahillGS ,

As well as the below, I now see a different "beast" - the data is coming from Forms. I use these fairly regularly, but the only date I have ever brought back is the from submission date. I will do a short test adding a date and see what I get back.

@melissahillGS

Put the label outside both your gallery and Form, on a spare bit of canvas. Make sure you don't have the Form or the Gallery selected then Insert --> Label. Then in the Text property just add the DataCard value, no dot notation is required.

Eg if your datacard value name for either DateBirth or BirthDate0 is DataCardValue20 then just add this as the newly created labels' Text property and see what gets returned. Make sure you have a gallery item selected so that the Form has some data in it.

@WarrenBelz

I was able to update both fields in the SP List.  And my DateBirth field populated corrected on the Edit Screen in the Canvas App.

So I am also suspecting something is going wrong collecting the date in Forms and getting it to the list.
