Distinct values to be displayed for a Combo Box in power apps

Hi,

I have a Dataverse Table called Sports, which has a Choice Column called Players. The Choices in this column are duplicated, some choice values are repeated multiple times. I want to show only the unique choices in the combo box inside a form.

I have been using Distinct Function in the Items Property:  Distinct(Sports, Players.Value) . but this does not work.

Note:

>Using Choice Column (Players)

>Using Combo Box that the form picked by Default when connected to the table to display the Choices (Players).

Please can anyone help me in this?

Referencing a Dataverse choice set can be done by referencing the choice set name within the Items property. The exact name will depend on whether the choice columns is defined as a local or global choice.

A global choice can be recognized by the 'Sync with global choice' yes value in your table (see players column settings)

A local choice can be references via Choices('Column Name (Table Name)'):

Choices('Players (Sports)')

A global choice can be referenced by the given choice set name (see 'Sync this choice with' in column settings - the dropdown can be seen in my screenshot above.)

Choices('Global choice name')

It's a global choice and Choices(Players) would populate the choices in the combo box, what I am looking for is , I have duplicates in the choices and want to display only the distinct choices.

How Distinct function should be used for such case?

I have tried multiple logics using Distinct function but still the duplicate values exist in the Combo box. Am I missing anything ?

The choice column in dataverse has Allow Multiple selection enabled and Allow Search enabled, FYI.

Is there a specific reason why you would need duplicate values in your choice set? Your choice set should contain unique values, allowing you to display the unique choice set by using the following items property:

Choices(Players)

Although I would suggest removing the duplicate option(s), the code below will only display the unique values. This will however have an effect on how we patch the values.

The following code will display the unique choices & add a column that will make patching easier.

//Add column containing unique choice record
AddColumns(
    //Group by choice text value
    GroupBy(
        //Add text value
        AddColumns(
            Choices(Players),
            "ChoiceText",
            Text(Value)
        ),
        "ChoiceText",
        "GroupedByChoice"
    ),
    "Value",
    First(GroupedByChoice).Value
)

//Patch input for a single-select choice column
ComboboxName.Selected.Value

//Patch input for a multi-select choice column
ShowColumns(ComboBox1.SelectedItems, "Value")

As you can see, it adds a lot of additional complexity which can be avoided by auditing your data and removing the duplicate values within your choice set.

Just a question : Why do we need to use such logic and why it cant work the normal way to have unique values with distinct function?
