Edit Form dropdown showing first in Item list

Hi.

I have an App with a junction tabel bringing together three lists. 

1. StudentList "ID" relates to "StudentID" on the Junction table.  They are just plain number fields in the SP lists.

The dropdowns on the junction edit form were made by using Shane Young's method of making a lookup in forms.  The Dropdowns have all been set up the same way.  

On Student Card:

Items: StudentList.ID

Default: If(JunctionEditForm.Mode=FormMode.New, "Select Option", ThisItem.StudentID)

When I set the dropdown Item, I set the Value in the Properties to Title so the dropdown shows the Title of each ID for each listitem.  Titles are autopopulated from other fields in their respective lists.

My problem is that when I go to edit an existing record in the Junction edit form the 3 dropdown fields all show the first item in each list.  Can anyone help please.

Could you tell me:

1)the relationship of the three drop downs?

2)what do you want to use these three drop downs?

3)are these three drop downs all in Junction edit form?

Actually, based on the information that you provide, I could not quite understand what do you want.

Based on the information that I've get, I think you should set in this way:

1)drop down1:(for Junction list)

Items: Junction.StudentID

Default: If(JunctionEditForm.Mode=FormMode.New, "Select Option", ThisItem.StudentID)

2)drop down2:(for StudentList ,ID is lookup field)

Items: Choices(StudentList.ID)

Default: If(JunctionEditForm.Mode=FormMode.New, "Select Option", ThisItem.ID.Value)

I have three Lists that are brought  together in the junction list.  The purpose is to bring in N:N relationships and produce a report etc.  I can populate other columns through Lookup() without a problem.  The problem is that the Dropdown boxes keep taking on the first item in the list.

Just to focus on the Student list...

Student list has ID and Title columns

Junction list has ID, Title, StudentID & STUDENTTitle columns.

So Im on the Junction edit form and I need to lookup the student list to bring them into the junction list.  For this Im using 
Dropdown Items: SortByColumns(Students,"Title")

Default : If(JunctionEditForm.Mode=FormMode.New, "Select Option", ThisItem.STUDENTTitle)

I have autopoluated the StudentID as a workaround to enter it as a foreign key in the junction list.

It seems to be holding the current selections now but for new forms and the edit mode when there is nothing in the fields it still autopopluates with the first selection in the list.  I can live with it but it would be nice to have the "Select Option" appear instead.

My submit button is simply : SubmitForm(JunctionEditForm) and New form is NewForm(JunctionEditForm);Navigate(JunctionEditScreen, ScreenTransition.Cover).

Firstly, let me explain your two lists structure:

1)student list: ID field(number text type), Title field(text type)

2)Junction list :ID field(number text type), Title field(text type), StudentID  field(number type),StudentTitle field( text type)

Secondly, sine the drop down's Items to SortByColumns(Students,"Title"), you could only set the drop down's default to one value in its items.

There's no "Select Option" in its Items: SortByColumns(Students,"Title").

"ThisItem.STUDENTTitle" is not one of the record in the table that this formula returns: SortByColumns(Students,"Title").

What's more, the drop down's default is the first item by default.

Since your two value both not meet requirements, so it will display as first item.

How to solve this problem?

Try this:

1)create a collection with the value of "Select Option","ThisItem.STUDENTTitle".

set the screen's OnVisible:

ClearCollect(collection1,Students);Patch(Students,Defaults(Students),{Title:"Select Option"},{Title:ThisItem.STUDENTTitle})

2)set the drop down's Items:

SortByColumns(Students,"Title")

3)set the drop down's Default:

If(JunctionEditForm.Mode=FormMode.New, "Select Option", ThisItem.STUDENTTitle)

I think I understand what you are saying.  If my dropdown looks at a list using Title (i.e. SortByColumns(Students,"Title") then my default will always lookup the first record in Student.   

If I have Default: "ThisItem.STUDENTTitle" I am asking the default to be a field that is not in the list "Students" But it does actually make the dropdown box keep its selection on edit.

For new item the default will always select the first item in the list so I now have a record with a "-" in the title field.

I know it is not what you gave me as a solution but it works well enough for my use.  Thank you for your replies though.
