Emails are sent like expected but still getting an error

Hi everybody,

I'm currently working on a Power App and running into a strange issue when sending multiple emails to distinct email adresses where the message changes based on the receiver.

In short:

It's a company wide ordering app for internally used products where a teamlead can order multiple products for multiple employees at once (even for employees which are not part of his/her team).

When using the app, every ordered product gets collected into a shopping cart.

Eventually once everything is in the shopping cart and the order button is clicked, the data gets writen to a Sharepoint List and confirmation emails are sent out.

These emails are sent to team-specific email adresses, where only the teamleads of that team have access to.

(We call those "functional inboxes" internally).

In order to do this, I have a Sharepoint list where every team and functional inbox is listed.

(Unfortunately, the functional inboxes are managed by someone from IT so I can't use the Office365User function to look it up.)

When ordering, I'm creating a temporary collection called "colTempEmail" with the order information and a lookup function to the Sharepoint list in order to retrieve the functional inbox email adress based on who the products are being ordered for.

Then, I'm sending emails to the different teams of which the specific recipients of the products belong to in such a way that every team only gets an overview of products that are ordered for employees of that specific team.

To do this, I'm using the following code:

ForAll(Distinct(colTempEmail, FUNCTIONAL_EMAIL),
Office365Outlook.SendEmailV2(
ThisRecord.Result,
"Uw bestelling is doorgestuurd!",
"<h3>Hieronder het overzicht van uw recente bestelling.</h3>
<br>
<table width ='100%' border='1' cellpadding='5' style ='border:1px solid black; border-collapse:collapse'>
<tr style='background-color:#efefef'>
<th>Pickernummer</th>
<th>Naam</th>
<th>Team</th>
<th>Artikel</th>
<th>Maat</th>
<th>Aantal besteld</th>
<th>Besteld door</th>
</tr>
<tr>"
& Concat(Filter(colTempEmail, FUNCTIONAL_EMAIL in Result),
"<td>" & USER_ID & " </td>" &
"<td>" & USER_NAME & " </td>" &
"<td>" & USER_TEAM & " </td>" &
"<td>" & ARTICLE_NAME & " </td>" &
"<td>" & SIZE_SPECIFICATION & " </td>" &
"<td>" & QUANTITY_ORDERED & " </td>" &
"<td>" & ORDERED_BY & " </td>",
"</tr>")
& "</table>"
)
);

I'm running into a strange issue however where every email is sent as expected, but users are still reporting an error when ordering.

The specific error is as follows:

Office365Outlook.SendEmailV2 failed: The method 'SendEmailV2' invaled value for parameter 'To'

Presumably, this is because I'm using the result of a table data type as my parameter for the 'To' field.

I have tried multiple variations to convert this to a text type (eg. "Text(ThisRecord.Result)"), but the error keeps persisting.

Although, everything still seems to work as expected, I would like to clear the error my endusers are getting.

Can anybody help, please?

Thank you so much in advance!

Kind regards,

Jasper

Edit -

Some additional weirdness I wanted to mention:

The error only shows up for the enduser and not for me while editing/previewing the app.

Hi WiZey,

I managed to get rid of the error by updating my code as follows:

IfError(
Office365Outlook.SendEmailV2(
ThisRecord.Result,
"Topic of mail",
"Content of mail"),
1)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! 👍

Hello @JasperN ,

I believe you can "catch" this error with "IfError()".

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/power-fx/reference/function-iferror

Can you try encapsulating your code inside "IfError()" and see how it goes?

Hey @WiZey

Thank you for the quick reply.

I tried using "IfError()" as you suggested, but I'm not able to get rid of the error.

Also tried a couple of permutations (eg.: encapsulating the "ForAll()" and/or the "Office365Outlook.SendEmailV2()" statements individually), but it doesn't seem to work.

Kind regards,

Jasper

"IfError()" can help you replace "ThisRecord.Result" value with a default value in case the email is somehow invalid for some reasons. So you actually want to write your code like this:

SendEmailV2(
  IfError(ThisRecord.Result, "defaultemail@defaultmailbox.com")
  "Subject",
  "Content"
)

On another point, I think you can actually make the error appears while editing by switching on this parameter:

Sorry it's in french, but basically this allow for some hidden errors to properly appear while editing the app. It should help you in debugging the issue.

Bonjour Wizey,

Merci beaucoup pour votre résponse rapide! 🙂

No problem for the French (I'm from Belgium, so I understand a little bit).

After enabling the formula-level error handling, I'm now also getting the error when previewing the app.

Thanks for the info!

Unfortunately, the error persists even after adding the IfError() code where you suggested...

There also isn't really a backup emailadress to send the mail to, seeing as they are specific to the teams who are ordering the products.

I'm also a bit hesitant about adding a backup emailadress because right now the emails do get sent to the correct recipient (regardless of the error).

Kind regards,

Jasper
