Experience with Solutions

I wanted to know the group's experience with Solutions.  I tried them when they first came out and abandoned the use for two main reasons:

• I had 33 data sources and 33 environmental variables mapped for each one.  After importing my PowerApp into a new environment, 2 of the 33 still referenced the old environment.  31 correctly referenced the new environment.
• Even the ones that referenced the new environment still maintained the site display name of the old environment.  When I would hover over them they would show the dev SharePoint site, even though the data source was in my production site.  Clicking the data source would take me to the production site but the display name would be the dev site.

Even though I could have manually addressed the first issue and the second issue did not impact my data, these two issue just made me feel like the Solutions feature was not ready for PrimeTime.  Given this was some time ago I wanted to know is using Solutions is worth it given that I some feature functionality requires it's use.

If the data sources are used in Flows you should use Connection References. For Power apps it should prompt you to create new connections. if the data sources are SharePoint, SAP, or Dataverse you should be using Environment variables to point to the Data Sources. If you make sure you remove the current and default values before exporting you will be prompted to enter new values when you import.

If the environment variables showed the old values upon import into the new environment then you didn't remove the values and publish customizations before export. This is a requirement for them to work right on import.

In terms of your other questions. Yes, they can be a good bit of work but if you are doing any apps that call flows then they become a necessity or the flows won't work right after you import them.
