Filtering a sharepoint list with a collection on a column that has the same name across both

Hey all,

I am trying to filter a gallery to only show items that meet a certain criteria. 

I have a gallery with the following filter function: 

Filter('list1', 'MilestoneID' = MilestoneID in CommitteeRecordsofUser);

No syntax problem there.

Additionally, I checked the Collection of "CommitteeRecordsofUser" and that has all the proper items based on a sharepoint list called 'list2'.

I know that in 'List1' there are records that DO match the MilestoneID across 'List2'. The idea is for my gallery to show items from 'List1' only if they match the MilestoneID value from items in 'List2'.

The collection is created by the following: ClearCollect(CommitteeRecordsofUser, Filter('List2', MemberEmail = LoggedInMail)).

So by all accounts, I should have a gallery with approx 17 items, since there are 17 records in List1 with a MilestoneID that matches records in List2. 

However, I have no records and no errors. 

I checked that my collection is correct. 

I think this is giving me a problem because the column MilestoneID (the internal name) is exactly the same across List1 and List2, so I believe that powerapps is not evaluating this correctly because it doesn't recognize that the columns aren't the same. 

Any advice?

Like I said above as well, I also made sure that list1 desired items do have the same exact MilestoneID record as the 17 items from List2.

Hi! 

To differentiate with two similarly named columns, the As operator is always super handy.

Perhaps try something like:

Filter('list1' As L1, L1.'MilestoneID in CommitteeRecordsofUser.MilestoneID)

I ended up using this: Filter('table1', MilestoneID in CommitteeRecordsofUser.MilestoneID) and that worked.

I have an unrelated problem I am struggling with, if you don't mind putting your two cents in.

I have a username in List1 but the full name in List3. Ideally, I want to be able to put the full name instead of the username in the gallery. 

The good news it that L1 and L3 both have a username column with the username, so I am trying to do a collection that grabs all the fullnames of the people and then somehow put that in the gallery. 

I have the following code: ClearCollect(StudentSpecificData,Filter('list3', Username in CommitteeRecordsofUser).Username);

In produces a delegation warning that I can live with.

However, I keep getting "invalid scheme, expected a one column table". 

I'm not as familiar with collections. 

Do you think I am on a good path here?

I'm basically trying to do a join on username across the collection of CommitteeCollectionofUser, grab that username, look at List3, find the corresponding full name, and then store it somewhere where I can add it to the gallery for the end user to see.

Assuming the username is unique to a user, perhaps try using the AddColumn function which will allow you to add the appropriate value based on the username.

As best as I can tell, you want something like as your galleries data:

AddColumns(
  Filter('table1', MilestoneID in CommitteeRecordsofUser.MilestoneID) As L1,
  "FullName",
  LookUp(List3, UserName = L1.UserName).FullName
)

This will automatically add the column to the galleries datasource, no collection required - although you can also use this in a collection if you need it elsewhere. Please note I just copied your filter statement as it's working for you, and also that you may have to modify column names.

apologies for bugging ya again.

I've got the following code:

AddColumns(
Filter('List1, Username in CommitteeRecordsofUser.Username) As L1,
"FullName",
LookUp('Table3', Username= L1.Username).FullName
);

I don't have an error (just a pagination warning, I can live with that), but I can't actually see this as a data field for Gallery1. 

Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong?

Just to clarify, you mean you can't access it with "ThisItem.FullName"?

Does it come up blank, or does it actually not let you access it?

My goal is to get this:

I want to be able to put the fullname at that section, but when I try to get an option from the datafield on the gallery, the added column isn't there.

The addcolumn function is onvisible for the screen and I restarted the entire app (After saving) and it didn't error out, I just can't seem to use that as a data source here in the gallery.

The gallery has the following code:

Filter('list1', MilestoneID in CommitteeRecordsofUser.MilestoneID)

my on visible for the screen is:

AddColumns(
Filter('List1, Username in CommitteeRecordsofUser.Username) As L1,
"FullName",
LookUp('Table3', Username= L1.Username).FullName
);

However, "FullName" doesn't seem to be in List1, at least in terms of the gallery.

Ahh I see what it is - Use AddColumns function as the galleries Items, instead of in the OnVisible for the screen, and it should show up.

Just for future reference, addcolumns doesn't actually change the datasource, but rather returns a new, modified set of values
