Hi all, I am trying to work out a way of making the height of a gallery dynamic based on the content within it. Everything I can find when searching for this issue is talking about the height of an individual item within the gallery, however I am talking about the gallery itself.
The purpose of this is because it is being built into the same page as a form and I need to combine the scrolling mechanism. Therefore I need the gallery itself to have the height dynamic to all of its content so that I can manage the scrolling with a parent container.
Does anyone have thoughts on if/how this would be possible? I'm fearing it may not be.
Thanks in advance,
Dan
Hi @dbarnesab
You can achieve this using the Gallery.AllItems output.
So, for example, if you have Container1 in your gallery that is a different height for each item, then you could set the overall Height of the Gallery to:
Sum( Self.AllItems, Container1.Height)
I was going to suggest using a fixed height gallery and just multiplying the row count by the template height, but i didn't even know your suggestion was possible. I tested this myself, and even with a template padding of 0, it still seems like there's somehow 1 pixel in between each row. Here's an expanded version that accounts for this as well as template padding. There may be an easier way to write this.
Sum(Self.AllItems, Container1.Height) + CountRows(Self.AllItems) + (1 + CountRows(Self.AllItems)) * Self.TemplatePadding
This principle appears to be correct, however I am experiencing mixed resulted depending on the number of records and size of each record. As I add new records, some times the overall size is 50-100 pixels bigger, sometimes it's slightly smaller with a slight scroll and sometimes it is perfectly aligned. I'll try and play around with this principle to see if I can work out a solution and post an update. If anyone has already solved this then I'm keen to hear 🙂.
Added: I think this principle considers each record to be the same height if I'm understanding it and that will likely be my issue.
Hi @dbarnesab ,
If you have added a scroll container on your screen which stretches way beyond the screens size then try adding your control in the scroll container directly and keep 'height' property as Parent.Height this will stretch beyond page size. (But for this, you need to stretch your scroll container more than screen size then Gallery will reflect its position and height)
Note: You can use any gallery and if you are using any container 1st then make its height longer and then add gallery else use gallery directly.
Hope this helps
Thanks for this @Ethan_R. Sadly in my application I have content above and below the gallery which is what makes it more complex. This approach wouldn't let me start the next objects position as directly under the gallery if that makes sense.
Further to my comment above, the solutions from @JasonWS and @Ash13 works, I think I am only being hindered by what looks like a bug. I will probably need to post this bug as a new issue but here it is if anyone has experienced anything similar:
My height results appear to be intermittent. In the first screenshot here you can see that the height is calculated to 145, however for some reason it is coming through as 105 as we can see on the right. This is obviously when I am getting the gallery showing too small.
Weirdly if I then replace the formula with a static value, and then re-enter the formula again it works correctly.
I could work with this bug if it didn't happen again every time a new gallery item was added.
ADDED: And a published version seems to always be fixed with the incorrect value (105 in the example above).
