Form Integration not populating 1 field in SharePoint List datasource

One of our dynamic dropdown fields Maintenance Activity 2 is not populating back to our SharePoint List as out form integration. I have attached a screenshot below.

You can see that successful submissions have text populated in that field, and our test submissions do indeed have a value selected when we submit, but no text is populating back into the List. Any idea why?

I have made some changes how our fields are dynamic and dependent, but none of the other fields are having issues submitting back to the list. I can't figure out why. Any ideas?

So I'm actually going to make a few assumptions based on the information you've provided. Let me know if I'm off regarding any of these...

  1. With the SP data type for the field being Single Line of Text, when you first added the data card to your form, it came in as an 'Edit Text' (highlighted, in red box)...
    CatSchneider_0-1681861553435.png
  2. But there was a need for the end user to select from a list of values, so the data card type was changed to 'Allowed values' (in green box).
  3. The controls needed to be adjusted to meet the requirements of the app, so the Data Card was unlocked, therein changing it to a Custom data card.

If the above assumptions are correct, then I believe this can/may be solved by editing the Update property of your data card.

CatSchneider_1-1681862174705.png

Simply edit it to be:

MA2dd.Selected.'Activity 2'

If, however, you open the Advanced properties of the Datacard for this field, and you do not have Update as a property, then you will need to re-create the data card once more, as most likely 'Add a custom card' (in red box) was selected, instead of 'Add field' (in green box)...

Any custom cards added to a form in this manner, lack the Update property, meaning they cannot write back to the data source.

Let me know if this helps, or if you're still running into any issues.

There are a few things that could be causing an issue such as this...

  • What is the data type of the 'Maintenance Activity 2' field... meaning is this a text, choice, lookup, or some other data type (in SharePoint)?
  • What is the datacard type you selected for the field?
  • Did you change any of the datacard properties because of a specific use case?
  • Did you swap to a different control from the original control that was created with the data card?
  • Did you edit any of the input control (datacardvalue) properties to match a specific use case?

I know this seems tedious, but any information about changes made to the original data card and its contents could be the culprit.

p.s. I'm currently working on a guide to understanding forms controls (so you can own them, instead of what feels like the other way around) that I'll be publishing to my site in the near future. But until that time, hopefully I can get you the answers you need.

Many thanks for the thoughtful response. Here are my best answers to your questions:

  1. The data type of Maintenance Activity 2 is Single line of text in the SharePoint List
  2. The card is a Custom datacard. Please let me know if you meant something else by "type."
  3. Yes, we have changed the Default value and the AllowedValues value. Happy to elaborate on what those formulas are as needed.
  4. No, I believe we have kept the same dropdown control. However, I tried to troubleshoot for that anyway by deleting the card and recreating it, but even after rebuilding the card, the value doesn't populate back on the list (the rest do).

However, I have changed some code to make the MSM Team, Maintenance Activity 1, and Maintenance Activity 2 drop downs to cascade. This is the formula for the Items property:
    Filter (
    NEW_NEW_MSM_dds_IDs_1,
    'MSM Team'= MSMTeamdd.Selected.Value
    &&
    'Activity 1'= MA1dd.Selected.Value
    )

Currently, the other dropdowns use similar code and write back just fine, with the only different I can tell being that we are using && to further filter our cascading dropdown results in this field. Could that be part of the issue? A syntax error, maybe?
  5. Yes, the datacard value is currently displaying Activity 2 from the new data source shown in the screenshot attached. See attached screenshot.

So I'm actually going to make a few assumptions based on the information you've provided. Let me know if I'm off regarding any of these...

I found the solution to my issue in a comment by v-yutliu-msft on this post first: Solved: Re: Form data fields not saving - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com) But I think your solution would have gotten me there too.

At some point, by datacard Update value got cleared and was blank. I replaced it with MA2dd.Selected.'Activity 2' and it started populating again!!!
