Galleries and Geospatial

Good day all!

I have a gallery with listings of barns, on select of the item I'd like it to launch the specific location in maps.  I've used sharepoint to pin all of the locations in the map, but I cannot figure out how to have the selected item from the gallery open to the specific location.  As it is right now, when a barn is selected, the map opens to the default location.

I played around with the map control and can recommend you do the following to get it doing what you are after:

  • Set the Items property to: UnitGal.Selected
  • Set both DefaultLocation and CurrentLocation to true
  • Set both DefaultLatitude and CurrentLocationLatitude to UnitGal.Selected.Latitude
  • Set both DefaultLongitude and CurrentLocationLongitude to UnitGal.Selected.Longitude
  • Adjust the DefaultZoomLevel to a more appropriate level. 10 works well to start.

That got me a working map that re-zoomed to each location in the gallery when I selected it.

Can you share the OnSelect code you are using right now and an example of how you are storing the location in Sharepoint?

Good morning,

The OnSelect I'm using right now is:

UpdateContext({loading_v: true});
Navigate(
'Map Screen',
ScreenTransition.Fade,
{selecteditem_v: UnitGal.Selected}
);
UpdateContext({loading_v: false})

My SharePoint list has the following columns, there are less than 75 pins.

OK, looks like your app uses the Google Maps API and the OnSelect code navigates to a map screen while setting a variable.

Next, can you share the OnVisible code for the Map Screen? That's the next logical place for the API call. Also, can you view the selecteditem_v variable to see what's in that record?

The goal here is to make sure the Latitude and Longitude from your SP list are being passed all the way to the API.

Hi BCLS776,

I'm using the geospatial map within powerapps, not a google api.  I don't currently have any code in the OnVisible.  The Latitude and Longitude are being passed from SP to the map as the icons are visible.  What I am hoping to accomplish is when an item in the gallery is selected, the map screen will open, showing only the location of the selected item, or at least zoomed into it.

I had started out with coding to have the thumbnail from the gallery open into its own screen, however, I was asked to try and have a map instead of the image.  I inserted the map and linked it to my SP.  I used the ItemsLatitude and ItemsLongitude to have the locations visible.

I am very new to powerapps and most of my learnings are from youtube videos and this forum.

Thank you for your assistance!

OK, this info is helping me understand better how you've set up your map. Can you show us what's in the Items property of the map you have on Map Screen? Ideally, it should be picking up the record stored in the variable selecteditem_v.

I have the name of my SP: ImgLibrary.  Items.png

I used a source code from MasterOffice 365 initially, and now I think I have it so messed up trying to change from opening an image to opening a map location😣

Here's the link I for the article: https://masteroffice365.com/sharepoint-images-powered-up-in-powerapps/

and here's the link for the source code I used: https://github.com/Office365Master/SharePoint-Images-Powered-Up-In-PowerApps

OK, doing this a bit blind, but let's try:

Change the Items property to: selecteditem_v

Next, press the Edit text next to the Fields property:

BCLS776_0-1624462104302.png

This control is looking for three things: a name/description, latitude, and longitude. See if the record stored in selecteditem_v has those fields within it. Select them, and fingers crossed, your pin appears at the selected item location...

I am offline for about the next 12 hours, but I'll check in later to see how you do.

Ok, so my pins appear in the map and I can zoom/scroll to each location.  Is it possible that when I click on the gallery item that it could take me to the map screen and automatically show the pinned location that was selected?

Hopefully this screen recording helps a bit.  I truly appreciate your help with this.  I feel like I'm so close but I'm just not sure how to have the app open to the specific location from the gallery.
