Hello all,
I've built a pretty simple contact lookup fairly close to the contacts template powerapps provides. However I'm pulling my contacts straight from the outlook connector but the app is only giving me a handful of contacts. I'm trying to get them all in there. The goal is a new contact comes in and it's immediately able to be looked up by the app to use in various ways but I need to be able to get over 3000 contacts in the lookup gallery or at least able to search them. I'm open to creating a sync between outlook and dataverse just need to get the simplest solution to getting all contacts into the app for lookup. Thanks for the help
I was originally thinking it would return whatever was in the search box. Then I realized that wouldn't work. So I'm hoping to make the whole of my outlook contacts searchable with the return in the gallery being the subset of whatever's typed... If the search bar is actively scanning through my outlook contacts I'm not sure why it wouldn't return a partial list of whatever's searched. Like those names beginning with the letter "J" for example. As of right now it's only returning my 10 most recent contacts and only those names are searchable.
As I said, if the Search formula is non-delegable then it isn't searching through all your outlook Contacts. Its only searching the first 500 or 2000, depending on your settings. If your Contacts are alphabetized it may not get to the first J entry until its almost exhausted the limit of items searched.
As I also said the formula you are using makes no sense. The format for startswith() is StartsWith( Text, StartText ). Where Text is what is being searched for the StartText. So your formula is trying to search a null string for the entry where a Textbox value is in the display name field. That just isn't going to work. I'm suprised you are getting any results from that formula. So if you want to use a Textbox instead of the dropdown I suggest you try this formula.
Filter(Office365Outlook.ContactGetItemsV2( "Contacts").value,StartsWith(displayName,TextInput1_1.Text))
Hello @Pstork1 ,
I tried your code, written as follows:
Filter(Distinct(Office365Outlook.ContactGetItemsV2("Contacts").value,companyName),StartsWith(companyname,Dropdown1.SelectedText.Value))
But got an error on the StartsWith piece (invalid argument).
Can you pls tell me why?
Thank you!
field names are case sensitive. in your code you use both companyname and companyName. Only one of them is correct.
Thank you @Pstork1 , will try that.
In the meantime, I decided to go with a workaround: create a contact list in SharePoint and sync it with Outlook. Not the most elegant solution, but got it to work without all the headaches, as a beginner, have to deal with, including the fact that my gallery only gets partially populated with most recently created contacts.
Will definitely try again the 'elegant' way.
Filter(Distinct('ListSyncedWithOutlook'.'Vendor Name','Vendor Name'),StartsWith(Result,TextInput_SubmittedByName.Text))
Thank you!
Hi, I only have 290 contacts in my Outlook address book, but the gallery I have linked to it in PowerApps only returns a handful of them. Currently the Gallery only shows 10 records. Can anyone explain why and help me solve this? Thanks
Also, I can't get the email to show on a gallery label, no matter what I use for Text property, ThisItem.emailaddresses, ThisItem.emailaddresses.address or ThisItem.emailaddresses.name.
Sorry for the many posts on this issue... I still have the issue of only 10 Outlook contacts out of 290 to show in the gallery but, at least, I was able to get the email to show on the label, using the formula: Text(First(ThisItem.emailAddresses).address)... Still looking for help in getting all my 290 contacts in the gallery. Thanks!
