Help with Sharepoint, data source, and Patch

Hi

I’m new to PowerApps and I’m still learning.

I have a form to add new items to Sharepoint, FDM Request Form.

I created a column named Cost_Center  and used Choice for a drop down. I used another data source ('FDM Cost Centers' SharePoint) to populate the dropdown.

Items : 'FDM Cost Centers'.FDM_CostCenter

I tried a Patch Function to add the new items with the selected cost center but, I kept getting an error regarding Record, Text, and Data type. Watching tutorials and searching this forum, gave me lots of possible answers, but I also got really confused. So, I ended up creating the other columns, CostCenterNum and CostCenterText. Please see attached images.

I even deleted the DataCardValue and replaced it with a ComboBox. (SelectMultiple: False, I only need one selection)

Update: Patch('FDM Request Form', Defaults('FDM Request Form'), {Cost_Center: ComboBox1.Selected.Value})

  • What is the correct way to Patch the cost center to FDM Request Form SP?
  • I would prefer the cost center without commas. eg 1001293790
  • Also, in New and Edit mode, I see all the possible cost center from the FDM Cost Center SP list, but when I use the details pane or the quick edit mode, my ComboBox only have the original default selection from drop down. The other two columns (CostCenterText and CostCenterNum) are regular input fields. Is there a fix for this?

Any feedback or suggestion would greatly be appreciated.

Thank you

@v-siky-msft ,

I would appreciate being given a little time to respond to an answer to my question.

@kamekie , your post of the image I asked for has provided the source of the problem - you do not need to Patch in the Update of a card. I am happy to continue with your issue if you need me - just tag me in your response.

Hi @kamekie ,

That is because you still need to configure the DefaultSelectedItems property of combobox1, please try this:

{'FDM_CostCenter': ThisItem.'Cost_Center'.Value}

Hope this helps.

Sik

Hi @WarrenBelz, thank you for sticking with me from the beginning. May I ask how did you find out that I didn't need a patch function? When should a patch function be used? In most tutorials and solutions on the forum, patch function was the solution. Sorry, I'm still learning.

Hi @v-siky-msft , I will try it out thank you.

Hi @kamekie ,

Your screen shot below showed the issue

UpdatePatch.png

An Update is essentially a Patch (there is also a command called UpdateIf which I use a lot instead of Patch).

A Patch can be run off any control (button, icon or the OnChange of a control are a few examples) - you just don't need one on a Form Update.

Thank you @WarrenBelz for the explanation.

Can I please ask you another question regarding SharePoint?

In the details pane, it seem to have lost all the powerApps information.

Fields that were hidden is now visible and the cost center seems to have the default's value (no longer linked to the data source).

Is there a setting we can change or this is how it is?

@v-siky-msft , Thank you very much the defaultSelectedItems fixed the edit mode.

Hi @kamekie ,

You can use "Customize in Power Apps" and set this form up the way you need - is this what you are asking?

Hi @WarrenBelz

So that was the SharePoint I was working on. It already have the PowerApps form setup.

New Item, Edit, and Open mode works, but when I used the detail pane or the quick edit, PowerApps setup seems to cease to exist. It seems like it's in default SharePoint mode.

If I exit out of quick edits or deselect the details pane, PowerApps works again.

I just thought there would be a setting somewhere the keeps the PowerApps links throughout SharePoint.

Hi @kamekie ,

I know what you are referring to - selecting Edit All will get you the Power Apps form, but I do not know of a way to change the standard form.

Hi @v-siky-msft

Are you familiar with the issue above where in Quick edit mode or with the Details Pane toggle on, it would remove PowerApps and return Sharepoint to Default settings?
