Help with patch formula

Hello, I'm trying to create a patch formula to use on a button that will deactivate the selected record and update the status reason.

I've got the deactivation part working with this formula -

Patch(Threat, Self.Selected.Item, {Status:'Status (Threat)'.Inactive})

When it's deactivated, I also want to update the status reason with whatever value is stored in the 'Live Status Reason' column as shown below, so these should match afterwards. I've created the same choices within the status reason column. Is this possible? Any help would be appreciated.

@jamestcbs -

If the "Live Status Reason" column is a Local Choice:

Patch(
    Threat,
    Self.Selected.Item,
    {
        Status: 'Status (Threat)'.Inactive,
        'Live Status Reason': 'Live Status Reason (Threat)'.'Fleet Lost'
    }
)

If Global:

Patch(
    Threat,
    Self.Selected.Item,
    {
        Status: 'Status (Threat)'.Inactive,
        'Live Status Reason': 'Your Global Choice Name'.'Fleet Lost'
    }
)

@jamestcbs

Please try the following,

Patch(Threat, Self.Selected.Item, {Status:'Status (Threat)'.Inactive, 'Live Status Reason': Self.Selected.'Live Status Reason'})

Please remember to give a 👍 and accept my solution as it will help others in the future.

Thanks CNT, for whatever reason it says the live status reason column doesn't exist. Also, within your formula should the 1st 'Live Status Reason' simply be 'Status Reason' as this is the value I want to modify, copying the live status reason?

Thanks for the suggestion, not sure if that will work as I'm trying to set the value as the same as whatever is in the 'live status reason', this can be any of 3 values not just 'fleet lost'. I just need the live status reason to be copied on status reason. However as you can see on my reply to CNT is doesn't even recognise the live column for some reason.

@jamestcbs - I misunderstood then.

You can use the Text function to convert the Choice data types into a string, and then run a LookUp function on those strings to return the correct Choice Value.

Note I am not clear what control "Self.Selected.Item" is referring to, but can try the pattern below:

Patch(
    Threat,
    Self.Selected.Item,
    {
        Status: 'Status (Threats)'.Inactive,
        'Live Status Reason': LookUp(
            Choices('Live Status Reason (Threat)'),
            Text(Value) = Text(Self.Selected.'Status Reason'),
            Value
        )
    }
)

No problem! Thanks again. Still getting the below error unfortunately. Will the above formula update the 'Status Reason' and not the other way around? I assumed 'Status Reason': would be first as this is the column I'm updating based on the other but I may be wrong!

jamestcbs_0-1718978786159.png

Self.Selected.Item refers to the record currently open within the 'threat' entity. This formula will be added to a button in the command bar to close whatever record is open.

'Status reason' column:

'Live Status Reason' column (not sure why the error says this doesn't exist? I've published the solution too to make sure

@jamestcbs - please could you take a screenshot of the formula bar.

Q: Will the above formula update the 'Status Reason' and not the other way around? I assumed 'Status Reason': would be first as this is the column I'm updating based on the other but I may be wrong!

The formula above will patch the "Live Status Reason" column. You will note there is no reference to the Status Reason column as one of the fields to be patched.

If you also want to Patch the Status Reason column, then you will need to confirm which Status Reason you want to use (each Status Reason is tied to a specific Status).

Q: Live Status Reason' column (not sure why the error says this doesn't exist? I've published the solution too to make sure

This is common.

1. Click the Open Component library to launch the Power Apps studio.

2. Find your data source from the data pane and click refresh.

3. Save and publish, then close Powe Apps studio.

4. Navigate back to the Command screen and select Resume.

The custom column should now appear as selectable in Power fx.

Hi @Amik, unfortunately I'm still getting errors after refreshing the data source

jamestcbs_1-1719223696034.png

This is the formula I'm using, I have changed a couple of the references to 'Status Reason' as this is the field I want to update, based on whichever option is selected in 'Live Status Reason'

Patch(
    Threat,
    Self.Selected.Item,
    {
        Status: 'Status (Threat)'.Inactive,
        'Status Reason': LookUp(
            Choices('Live Status Reason (Threat)'),
            Text(Value) = Text(Self.Selected.'Live Status Reason'),
            Value
        )
    }
)

Update - live status reason is now being recongised. I'm left with one error from the below formula

Patch(
    Threat,
    Self.Selected.Item,
    {
        Status: 'Status (Threat)'.Inactive,
        'Status Reason': LookUp(
            Choices('Live Status Reason (Threat)'),
            Text(Value) = Text(Self.Selected.Item.'Live Status Reason'),
            Value
        )
    }
)
